Should I do it.
Should I do it.
Ahhh.... I don't want to, but I may have to get rid of the G35. I need a car that gets better gas mileage. I am looking at the 2006 Civic Si in Fiji Blue.
Facts about me: I am 21, recently engaged and go to a state school in NC. I am worried about my G35 when it is left on campus. I worry about the one day that I go out to my car and there will be a huge dent or be keyed or even worse, stolen. I drive to school each day 75 miles round trip and the G35is suckin me dry.
Note: that I am a college student and only work part-time, so my income sucks over my car payment. If I do get rid of the G35 I will have around 5 grand in the bank, and have a much much lower car payment.
For the past 6 months I have been having to baby the car around, shifting at 2,000 rpms to conserve gas w/ occasional fun burst to redline and I still only get maybe 20-21mpg.
Anyways I went and test drove an Si today, and I really liked it alot. Handled exceptionally well for a Fwd, but power didn't come on until about 6,000 rpm. I have never made a second look at any honda until the new Si. Btw if I get one I will keep it clean and it will be a sleeper. I will mod this car heavily as in FI, and put in after market nav.
I am not shure what to do. I am tired of having to haul everyones **** around because I have the four door. Don't get me wrong the G35 has been the best car I have ever had by far, and I love my car (that stillen exhaust really gets to me "so sexy"), and I will cry if I see it go but I worry about it to much leaving it in parking places since the spots are tight.
Do you all think I am crazy for even considering doing this.
Btw I have a 2004 G35 Sedan 6mt Diamond Graphite on Black
Purchased 10/20/2003, now with 46,000 miles.
Mods include:
Stillen True Dual (original)
Injen CAI
Hp evo's in HD 18x8
Toyo T1-s
350z springs and shocks
Alpine 9835 Head unit
3m Clear bra
20% tint
How much do you think I can get my my G as is, or with out the mods. Btw I live in High Point, NC.

holy crap... 262 miles each day??? i can't even imagine this... i complain about my 4.7 mile trip to work.
(i used to live 3.7 miles away, with only two traffic lights).
onefast4door - do you still have all of your stock parts?
how did you get that alpine unit installed?
you will get more for your car if you return it to stock (minus springs), and part it out, than if you try to trade it in... unless you find a private buyer.
i've contemplated the same thing... but that's because i was looking to get a 996. a little different reasons, same path.

life is sooo much more important than money. (i know it doesn't seem that way when you don't have too much)
but i get a little happy when i drive to work... and then again anxious to start her up and drive her home, and carefully put her in the stable until tomorrow's run... it's 30 minutes of happiness each day, regardless of how my work day was... very peaceful.
but then again, i've paid my dues to allow me to drive almost any car in my modest price range... this just happen to be one helluva deal.
I can't imagine driving a nice car to college everyday. College has got to be filled with the most inconsiderate, careless and unresponsible adults anywhere. Plus the fact that parking is always tough to do.
When I was at school, even nice cars got dinged, dented etc.. Front and rear bumpers? Forget it, they are toast.
I guess one could park safely. But at my old school, that mean parking 1/2 way around the planet!

when i went to college, there was parking garage, with about 3 floors, and the first two were filled always, but the the 3rd floor was only filled with nice cars, and everyone basically watched out for each other to make sure we didnt mess each others cars up, so just park next to a couple of niece cars, cause those people usually watch out for what they're doing

Yeah that works if you can scope out a good spot. But it doesn't help if some moron in a 1987 beater parks nexts to you and opens the door on your ride.

Geez, you guys are making its sound like he's getting castrated and looking at a ford taurus.
The new Civic SI is SWEET. If you dont mind the much smaller interior, then i'd say go for it. Whats the redline on that thing, 10k,12k? If you got more dough to blow, look at the rsx type s, same car essentially, acurafied.

it isn't really cost effective to make the switch if you look at your overall expense. if your 75 mile commute is mostly freeway, you should be getting ~25-27 mpg. just add up your mileage for a year, and see exactly how much you will save with the civic si. think about how you'll probably be revving the si a bunch and your mileage isn't going to be close to what's advertised.
dealing with parking in bad spots sucks. i know that's why i avoid driving up to san francisco a lot these days. but it comes with the territory and if you knew it was going to bug you, perhaps getting a G while you were in college wasn't such a hot idea.
edit:
yeah i just checked the honda site, it's 23/32 for the civic. not much better at all......

^^^^^ good point, but I have never gotten 26-27mpg in the G35, I just got 360 miles off a tank of gas with going to where the dot comes on. With any sort of spirited driving it drops to 320 a tank.
