Dude!! I feel your pain! Happy to hear that your wife is not injured, it was not her fault.

If you have a good insurance company there should not be a problem with them fixing you "G" without "ripping' you off. They are not there to do that, but to help you get things right.

Most insurance companies will not replace your "G" unless you have more than 80% in damage. Some will at 50% but it sounds like you do not have that much damage.

Keep us updated and post some pics if you feel up to it.

State Farm is a good company and they will make sure that OEM parts are used, being a new car and all. But isn't the other person's insurance company be taking care of that and you should not have to claim on yours?

I have found that Lexus dealerships that have a body shop facility, does excellent work.

You can ask them to price it and tell them you will pay the difference, they are usually cool with that.

Good to hear that your wife is alright...I'm sure she had to be a little shaken up but that's much better than the other things that could've happened...State Farm is pretty good as far as dealing with accidents and repairs...I really hope you get it to a reputable ASE Certified mechanic...

Oooouuucchhhh! So sorry to hear your news, but so glad your wife is OK. Having the same agent should not make any difference, in fact it will probably make it easier and quicker to move everything along.

In my experience, I found that insurance companies have a list of certified autobody repair shops they use, and one of the criteria for certification was use of new OEM parts. When I got rear-ended in my last car, my insurance company said they'd give me a list of approved shops and I could also choose on my own, but they would pay based on what a certified shop would do. I said I wanted to go through the shop my car dealer used and the insurance company was happy to do it and said the shop was on their list. I didn't have to run around and get quotes or anything. The insurance company accepted the shop's damage assessment, paid the shop directly, and made sure I was totally satisfied with all the repairs before closing the case. You've got a good insurer so I'd think it would work in a similar way.

Might take a few weeks in the repair shop, but it should be good as new when you get it back.

Re: Grown Man Cries

You mentioned a very bad noise when the engine is running, sounds like more than 5k damage to me. If I'm right the fan on the G is attached to the engine, ie, it's not it's own electrical unit, and if you damaged the fan it's likely that some of the damage translated into the engine through the fan housing. Hopefully this is not the case but if the engine got at all damaged in the wreck do your best to have them replace the engine because that just spells trouble for reliability and future problems. Also it doesnt' take a huge wreck to bend the frame, make sure they check it out really good, that'll also send the price above 5k. Hope everything works out for you. Good luck. Glad to hear the wife's ok.

Just a word of caution about body shops: do some legwork/research
to find a good body shop. The body shops attached to new car
dealerships are usually NOT to place to have your car repaired.
I have 2 nightmares with them, a Honda sob story and a Nissan
nightmare. Both of these body shops returned new cars to me
with serious problems. Have since found a really good shop that
does all body work when I need it.

Re: Grown Man Cries

No in my experience that is not true. When I got hit a few years ago I claimed through and my insurance company paid ... They then went after and recovered the expense from the other party's insurance company.

If you have collision that is the way it should work.

Re: Grown Man Cries

Even OEM replacement parts have to be painted, but with a good body shop, the color won't be mismatched.

Getting a good body shop is the key. Even better if they're pre-approved from your insurance company, as then there will be no price haggling.

Not all insurance companies prefer OEM parts. I know Farmer's prefers aftermarket parts or attempted repairs to existing parts. Some body shops know how to work around that paper game and get OEM parts anyway.

Basically, a good body shop and OEM parts are the key to a good repair.

Re: Grown Man Cries

First, find the best bodyshop you can. Ask around. Then, have the insurance examiner for the other parties insurance see your car at the bodyshop, with the bodyshop manager present. They will work out a deal that they can both live with. Ignore the temptation to take the car to a shop that the insurance company recommends; unless it happens to be the same one you were going to use anyway. Very often these inside deals encourage the use of used or inferior parts, and very often pay lower labor costs.

Make sure your selected bodyshop uses nothing but new Infiniti parts. Also; the offending parties insurance company should pay for a rental car for you while your car is being fixed. Also, for significant damage, you are entitled to be compensated for the dimished value that your repaired almost new car has. Now that everyne has acces to Carfax, you probably will not get proper value for your car if you went to sell it. No sweat if it's a lease, nut a real issue if you own the car. Even under the assumption that a $10,000 repair can make your car perfect, it is probably worth at least $5,000 less if you tried to sell it. Have your dealer give you a trade in value before and after repair, and use this information to negotiate a lump sum payment for dimished value.

As for me, I don't think I'd want to keep any car that needed to be straighted on a frame straightening rig. Whatever the loss, I'd sell it. If there is just cosmetic sheet metal and paint damage, I'd live with it. But I think it's very hard to get perfect paint work these days.

yeah, that's the way my insurance works too.

gsafe... since you live in a small town, i highly suggest you research each body shop. when i had my prelude, i took it to this small town body shop (at the suggestion of my ins co) and now i know they had little experience with hondas. they were supposed to fix my driver side door (some fireman ran his truck into me). they peeled off this plastic "cover" underneath the door panel and didn't replace it. turns out this cover that they thought was expendable protected some electronic parts of the car from rain. dur. oh well, lesson learned.
