I've painted alot of wheels years ago. Stripping the original finish is not necessary. Actually it's desirable to have that as it serves as a base coat for the top finish. Stripping the wheels down would require a primer again. You can achieve a decently tough finish with normal paint if:
1) You clean the wheels very well.
2) You prep the finish with a 320-400 grit as best you can
2) Again clean and tape.
4) Paint with many light thin coats. Then clear for best results.
I always used automotive paints when I did my wheels but I suppose nearly the same can be done with a rattle can.
The tough parts is around the outside of the wheel and in the lug nut holes. Both areas can be scratched easily if you get your tires removed or every time you remove the lugs.

I honestly dont like it. It looks like u took a fat black permanent marker and colored it in. It makes the car look cheap when its a nice lux car & i hope u can remove that paint cuz it looked better with the original color. If u cant, u jus ruined a nice pair of rims. :[ Srry if u dont like my opinion, but if u like it.. thats cool cuz looks are in the eye of the beholder!

It would make the rims stand out even more. Looks good non-the-less
Spay paint? You could have said it was done professionally and we might not of even noticed...not by these pics anyways. Good work
