Question about Transmission

Need some help here. Family owns a transmission shop and today had a guy come in with an 03 sedan with an auto trans. Everything is fine with the tranny, but when you put it in the manumatic mode it doesn't go in it and the D still lights up on the dash (not the #'s) and the car shifts automatically as if still in the D mode even though the shifter is in the manumatic mode. Does anyone know if there is a sensor in the shifter in the console or does this operate with the manual position sensor. Any help would be great!!

I beleve that the Mode switch and the up/ dwon siwtches are part of the shifter console. (I reviewed a 2004.0 Service Sedan Manual)

From the Position indicator lamp symptom chart in the SM:
"The actual gear position does not change, or shifting into the manual mode is not possible (no gear shifting in the manual mode possible" reports a Presumed location of trouble as: Manual mode switch

Refer to AT-224, "DTC P1815 MANUAL MODE SWITCH" A/T main system (Fail-safe function actuated). Hope this helps.

Great job, man. That should be exactly what he needs.

Odd. I just ran my obdII scanner and it detected a P1815 code. But my auto runs fine. The scanner specified the code as "unknown". Maybe because it wasn't a Nissan scanner? I get no engine light either
