Neglecting your G?
Neglecting your G?
I live near Chicago in the NW suburbs. I've owned my G since November 1st 2002. I have babied the car like no other I've ever owned. I have to say, I've noticed lately that there are many G owners around here (of course none from this forum) who take crappy care of their G's. I saw a black one yesterday in a parking lot. A guy in his mid 40's gets out. I was leaving and drove past to say hi. I took one look at his car and almost puked! The front wheels are solid black! he has the stock 6 spokes and the dust was so heavily accumulated that his wheel was black. The car itself wasn't dirty so it wasn't that it hadn't been washed. In my opinion, it's sheer neglect and laziness. I bet that car has only seen the park and wash washes at the local Mobil stations! I bet it's never been through a real car wash, which around here is the same price. You know, the kind where they power wash the wheels before you go through and it has wheel cleaner in the wash itself!
I was sad to see a G in that shape. Everyone I know who has a G keeps it meticulous IMO. I rarely see a G like this but this one was gross! I wanted to keep driving around and tell the guy his wheels need a cleaning and he should get off his lazy duff and do it himself!
I wonder, is it that the owner of this G never owned a higher than nothing maintenance car like the G or does he think this is normal for the car? Or is it laziness or neglect? Sometime's I wonder as perhaps many G owners have never owned a car like this. "Traded in the 1999 Camry for a G and now what do I do?" type of person.
Thoughts, comments? I hope whomever it was doesn't read this post!!!! Or perhaps maybe they should...

Re: Neglecting your G?
I clean my G as much as possible but I realize that to some people, their car is nothing special and they probably got it because of the Motor Trend car of the year thing. I see a lot of G's in that condition.
I love my car but most older people look at their car as an Accord or Civic or whatever. They probably got a Vette at home in the third garage that they take really good care of.

Re: Neglecting your G?
Yo Chiphead, I feel your pain bro. I'm so fanatical that I at least rinse off my G b4 she goes in the garage. Most times when I get home I get the hose out and do a proper wash and dry. Makes me feel good to know my G is clean and ready for next day.
LOL, there's only a half dozen G's now in my city of Cambridge, and 3 (including mine) are on my street! One of them makes mine look like it just won first prize at the 'Concours d'Elegance'. It's filthy, not detailed at all, front wheels are black, front right wheel is scuffed and the rim is ruined, door dings--------breaks my heart to see it drive by every day. It's only 3 months old but it looks like it's 10 yrs.
I want to go up to the guy and tell him he needs a wash and wax and help him spruce her up again. He'd have it mucky again inside of a week. I try not to take any notice, but ya know that exhaust note is unmistakable. I look up every time he passes. lol I need counseling.........

Im 38 and love my cars. Try to keep them the best I can for the time i have. I do not wash my G more than once a week for various reasons and one being I want to limit the swirls in the paint. Blac obsidian
I take it by a local self wash at least once a week to rinse the rims to keep them going clean.
The guy you saw probably just thinks of it as a car and his car is probably not maintained either. It will be the one in 5 years that is broken down on the sideof the road looking all crappy and giving Infiniti a bad name.

Re: Neglecting your G?
actually i would disagree it would be the older crowd. Im thinking it would be more younger crowd you drive their car hard each and every day who try to smoke every person out there. if there was that much brake dust then it must mean the guy was driving his car hard accelerated and then come quick stops. Most of the time old ppl will baby their car and take it easy KNOWING they can smoke another **** but wont. I would say the guy was probalby a young punk with another G which was bought by his parents and given to him
Re: Neglecting your G?
Hmm... my $.02- I don't know a single person my age with a nice car who doesn't meticulously care for it. I mean, what ELSE do we have to do with our time?? The brake dust will happen, no matter what... it just depends on how long you let it cake. That is just sad, though... a thoroughly neeglected G... We had a string of thunderstorms for two weeks in Indy, so there wasn't much I could do to hope and keep the cars clean (wash it in my garage every night, then get it nasty the next day?)... I felt like crap driving it around with mud or something on it, because we've got a long gravel part to our driveway, and at the bottom of this hill, you go over a bridge where water accumulates, etc. HORRID conditions to keep a car clean.
However-- my rims were always clean, because I often clean my car. If I see a dirty car with sparkling rims, the guy/girl just hasn't been able to get it under the hose and sponge yet, or they're driving it to the car wash. If they've got filthy rims, odds are they haven't washed it in weeks. So sad... so so sad...

Re: Neglecting your G?
I'm totally in love with my G. My wife is pretty cool about it, but we've definitely got a love triange going on here. Cleaning and polishing is just an excuse to get outside and rub my hands all over the beautiful bod of that car. I keep it spanking clean always - wash once a week, spot detail several times a week, treat the vinyl every 2 weeks, treat the leather every 2 weeks, vacuum, polish, buff, wax, etc, etc. I think new cars and special cars (like the first US appearance of the famous Skyline) should be kept in pristine condition as much as possible. I too have seen G35s that were dirty and it made me sad. Some people just don't have an eye for that sort of stuff. We must feel sorry for them, eh?

Just to clarify further what my post was about: The fella on my street with the unkempt Coupe certainly doesn't wash his every week, and by the looks of the wheels they've never been done.
Absolutely no comparison to peeps on our site, some of whom are far more **** than me about looking after their G.
This neighbour of mine should log on and learn how to look after it, at least show a little more love for it.
But like someone has said, it's his car, his problem.
Just hurts to look at it.

Re: Neglecting your G?
Nuttyprof, In the summer I handwash only, so as not to scratch the 'short' rims. Winter rims wear 225/55/17 snows so no chance to scratch those.
I find keeping the rims well Zaino'd (about every month) good for keeping the wheels clean. What collects on them is easily washed off . Any stubborn spots I use Simply Green to cut that dirt, but that means re-Zainoing.
I use Zaino products (Z-9+Z-10) for cleaning and conditioning the leather, but there's a number of good products posted here. (in Detail Forum)
Bro, I notice you've got the TS-ECU upgrade. Have you posted with info anywhere? If so would you post the link. Thanks.

Re: Neglecting your G?
I'm 39 years old and I don't class myself in that upper age escelon yet... (I hope you guys don't either). I was actually thinking about this today that the people who neglect their G are probably too busy to keep up with it. Why would someone own a car like this, spend 30K+ for it and let it go to crap! I've even seen Merc's and Porsche's out there that look like crap too. I don't understand it, My wife has a Merc ML350 and I tell her to go the local car wash where they can also clean and vacuum the interior. Her Interior gets dirty much quicker than mine! I wish she would but she hates driving out where it is. So I do whatever
I can for her and detail when I have the time and my G is clean.
It makes me want to slap those G owners that neglect their cars and tell to wake up you fool, you own a 30K car and you treat it like crap. I wonder if they spent so much on their cars that they can't afford to wash it - true newbies!

Re: Neglecting your G?
Hmm, I have never driven the car in the rain or when it's wet out after the rain, (I'll take my wife's van instead when it rains). Hand wash only. Food and drink are forbidden inside the car. If I can't find a parking space with no other car's around, I don't park period. And it's garaged 100% of the time.
Now my previous honda, it wasn't so lucky. I guess I'm making up for that.

Re: Neglecting your G?
Take it easy on the old guys. I'm 51. The G is hand washed once or twice every week. The wheels are cleaned every other night. Been doing this to every car I have owned for 35 years. Neighbors think Im crazy.
