MIL light came on and brake issues

Just took delivery of my 2004 g35 sedan w/21k miles on it last night. Today the MIL light came on. I tightened the gas cap and the light eventually shut off. I don't think the cap was loose, I just turned it a couple of extra clicks. Has anyone else had this problem? What else could be causing the light to come on and will the vehcile store the fault code so that the dealer can diagnose the problem?

I didn't notice the brakes squeaking during the test drive, but they are pretty noisy. The car only has 21k on it. Could it be time for new brakes? I called my sales person and am hoping they will replace the pads for me.

At 21K miles the brakes at a minimum need new pads, rotor replacement is just around the corner at 30K miles. The brakes wear pretty fast on the 2003-2004s. If the CEL turned off after you tightened the gas cap, forget about it and consider yourself lucky.

Not necessarily, but it's possible if it was driven in lots of stop and go traffic. At 21k miles I had approximately 50% left on the brakes on my 03.5 6MT sedan and I commuted in bumper to bumper traffic every day.

I live in the Houston area. According to the history of my sedan in Houston, front pads need replacing after 15K mikes, front rotors after 30K miles. The rears are much better.
