g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

Hey guyz,

On a trip up to NYC this past weekend I noticed the car pulling right on the highway when my hands were off-the -wheel. Just to be sure I tried tried on local roads in my neighborhood...and same results. I only have 1900 miles on my g35 sedan which i've owned for about a month now.

I've contacted the service department @ my local dealerhsip...they scheduled me for later this week. I was wondering if anyone has had similar issues???

i'll keep you posted.

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

I bought my 2003 G35 Sedan used with 16,500 miles on it. The car
came off lease. The dealer history is interesting. It was brought in
for 4 wheel alignment twice, had 2 tires replaced. Had new breaks
all around. Take it to the dealer and have the 4 wheel alignment.
Glad mine was broken in when I got it!

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

Same thing happend to me. Bought the car on May 30 and brought it back in for the plates and registration sticker (Texas). Got it back and it was pulling right significantly. I made a quick u-turn and told the service guy what was up. He had a tech drive the car on the only level straight near the dealership and told me that that was a natural design of my car and to take the car home and if I still want it re-aligned, I have that option up to 12K. After 2 days, it was driving me crazy, cause before I could drive without my hands and now I had to straigten it out every 50 yards or so. I brought it back to the dealer and told them the whole story and said that I don't believe the tech. They tested it out again and said that there isnt anything wrong. I went to the forum and found a TBA, but it only applied to the coup. I told them that I want an alignment, plain and simple and that the correction should not be that bad. A friend recommended that I ask them for a alignment spec so that I had proof that the car was in-line with factory settings. Sure enough, they were off and after the alignment, no problems.

I feel your pain. New car, pulls right? BS!!! FIX IT FOOLS.

My recommendation, ask them for your specs, that will tell the truth...BTW, ask them to check your tire pressures. It recommends 30 psi, but all of mine were at 35.

Don't forget that hot and cold tire pressures can vary as much as 6 lbs.

True...I made sure I measured my tires just before I took out my car out for the day.

I don't think that the 35 psi was the problem since I read that others like it that hard, some like it at 30.

Noone really difinitively answered the question, "what should your psi be at?"

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

I've had mine aligned twice now, but have complained about it more than that. The car still pulls right. One of the service guys says that is how the car is designed. I checked the tire pressure in the past and it was fine, although the dealer had inflated them to 40 psi at one point (the service guy also stated the suggested psi of 30 is way too low - now who do you believe on that one?)
Other sedan owners have been unhappy with the pulling and hoped a fix would come out for it. I am hoping for the same thing. I also remember reading that changing out the tires fixed the problem for some (I have the Goodyears that came with the sport package). I am getting tired of some of these annoying design issues.

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

When I took delivery the car was fine

I checked the tire pressures as I have never got a car from the dealer with the correct pressure

PAssenger side 32
Drivers side 28

I adjusted to the recommended 30 and the car seems to drift.

When the car is on a flat road the car drives straight but her in FL the cap in the road is more than most places so the car tends to drift.

My questions why did the dealer intentionally do the uneven pressure? Is the setup of the alignment meant to give better cornering and such and is more succeptable to road surface interferance?

My conclusion
The car is set up this was to allow for more precise steering and feel. As such the cap in the road means there is a tendency to drift slightly. I think the dealer did the tire pressure thing as a mistake because I doubt Infiniti would recommend doing this
My dodge caravan does this too but not as noticable

I am use to it now and do not pay any mind to it anymore. Keeping an eye on tire wear though

Have a healthy day!

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

Since I bought mine used and all the work was done previously,
the car drives straight as an arrow. But something interesting......
Since the dealer put two new tires on the car before I bought it,
I noticed that one new tire is on the front and the other in on the
opposite rear! That is kind of funny, you would think both new tires
would be on the front. Wonder now if they did it to make it
drive straight?

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

I got the pull also.
First visit to the dealer, "tire pressure." Problem was that this was the first thing I checked before I took it in. Guess what, the pressure was exactly the same after the visit.

Second visit after I put on aftermarket wheels: we can't do anything because the wheels won't fit on our alignment machine. OK, I can buy this one. I had it done at Les Schwab and the toe on the right front is out 1 degree too much. The car still pulls but not quite as much.

It's not the tires because I had the original set, and have rotated the new ones. Still pulls to the right. I call ICA and ask about the TSB for the coupe. They say it's only for the coupe. I ask them if the compression rod is different in the sedan v. the coupe. "NO." "Then why doesn't the TSB apply to the sedan if they use the same defective part?" "The TSB only applies to the coupe."

Just another reason I'll never get another Infiniti.

To the posters above, the fact that they put the new tires on different axles and the fact that they overinflated the tire on the right side are bandaids for a problem Infiniti has to know about but apparently is not willing to fix the problem correctly.

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

Guys, be sure the test this on the freeway.

If you car pulls a little to the right on the street its ok. It's because most city streets are designed with a curve to allow rain water to channel off to the sides. This is to prevent accidents, etc.

Most freeways have neutral flat roads. Make sure you test the car in the middle lane and if you still feel a pull it's proabably an alignment issue.

I work in service for Honda and you wouldnt believe the amount of new car owners who complain about a slight pull to the right. 90% of the time when the tech drives it he feels nothing wrong. I guess when people get a new car they want everything to be perfect.

I dont blame them, I would want the same if I didnt know any better.

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

I'm with Dan on this one... All of our cars "pull to the right" on most city streets. None of them do on freeways. My G actually pulled slightly to the left after a recent accident, but the bodyshop called in their specialist and it was back to perfect in an hour.

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

I just took delivery of a new 2003.5 sedan two weeks ago. Driving the car for a few days on streets and freeways, I noticed that it pulls to the right. The pull was not dramatic, but enough for me to take notice and bother me. I took the car back to the dealer and told him about TSB on coupe for similar problems. When I picked up my car - they installed a special rod, which is longer than OEM. The explanation was "the car was aligned correctly, but due to California's roads, we needed to install the rod for keep the car driving straight". Well, it seems to work.

My car pulled MORE on the freeway (still does) and was aligned by the dealer two times. What now?

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

This is interesting because there was a steering TSB issued April 25, 2003 for the coupe (but not the sedan) for a right drift. The fix, according to the TSB, was for dealers to install a right front suspension compression rod. So, I'm wondering if the sedan has the same problem--because about half the TSBs issued have eventually applied to both the coupe and sedan.

Might be worth asking the dealer about this TSB--but also filing a complaint with the National Highway Transportation Safety board asking for an investigation. The link to do that is listed in the TSB forum.

Re: g35 pulls right...alignment issue???

Thanks for the 411 on the city streets!
I'm in SF and the roads here are "SH*T"!
I do notice the pull.
I'll pay more attention to that before I go on the hwy.
But does anyone notice the driver's seat rocks or is it just me?
