So CarFax didn't show that the car was stolen?

Have you considered asking them to fork over the initial money you paid to your "dealer?"

http://www.carfax.com/guarantee/hctermsanddef.cfm

Any clues on the "Branded Title" stuff? The police or the DMV might be able to clarify that. If so, you might get some of your money back. The only exclusion is something about a salvage title being issued...

I'd read more, but I'm off to head in to work!

It seems like you should be able to do something about getting your money back but it's not like I have any experience with this. At least you were still able to get a G35. Like you, I drove a non-desirable vehicle for far too long before my G. I wasn't sure if I was ever going to be able to afford a G35 but things worked out.

Yes carfax should be able to get you your money back their policy clearly states that if a car turns out to be stolen and they said it wasn't they will pay you back. Hopefully you paid for the carfax report yourself instead of using a friends... Are you sure you have 18" wheels? Those look to be the factory 17" wheels chromed. Nice rid overall though just want to make sure you didn't get screwed by the dealership again.

Thanks, ajay! I'd love to get my money back too, but even if I don't, I still feel like a winner in my G!

Hi, Mike!

I did email them about it. They said because the report was run before the car had been reported stolen, the guarantee wouldn't apply. Unfortunately, the "real" Infiniti dealer didn't notice the car was missing for a while. Grrr! :P

Interestingly and ironically, my husband's car was stolen last year. I ran a report on his VIN to compare. That one did show the stolen recovery and salvage title, although it wasn't in the system until roughly six months after the theft.

If things hadn't worked out so nicely, I'd be far less pleasant about it, let me tell ya!

Hi, jawjaw!

LOL at your post. I defended my old ride for far too long! It had kick-@ss A/C, which is very important where I live, and it still looked pretty good. The other important quality it had was that it was paid for.

As for the present, the bogus "dealer" has disappeared, of course. If he's found and the police can actually do something to recover my money, I might have a snowball's chance. However, to keep my blood pressure low, I've just tried to accept the loss and move on. Quite fast in that new G, as a matter of fact!

Hi, Perry!

See above post re the Carfax thing. No dice for me, unfortunately. The fact the car had never been titled might have something to do with it, as well.

Please forgive my ignorance about the tires, 'cause I think you might be right. Yes, they "said" the tires were 18". I just went and inspected and measured them (again). Just noticed the tire says R17 at the end of the number sequence, yet the rim measures 18.5". I thought the rim diameter was the size of the tire, meaning they were right. Oops! Will change sig spec right away. And look into getting some new rims!

It actually depends, one of my friends looked up his VIN on a car that was previously stolen but recovered, it never showed up on carfax. Then another friend who had flood damage and guess what? it never showed up when he pulled a carfax right before he was about to sell the car.

Trust me, Carfax is a good tool but don't trust it. It is good to check but a clean report means nothing.

I bought a car with a clean carfax and then found out it had $15000+ damage and was totally rebuit. That was over a year ago and I notified Carfax at the time.

I re-ran the carfax and it STILL does not report the accident. Nice.

Welcome Toni....great story.......don't worry, I won't hate on you because you have no more love for the IP

I have always loved black but could never see myself giving it the attention it needs.

Congrats!
