Does anyone know approximately how much a body shop will charge to install the factory aero body kit for an 04 g35 sedan? front bumper, side sills, and rear under spoiler. how much work is actually involved. is any part of the project a diy or is it real difficult?

I did the aero kit update in pieces. It took me 5 hours to get the front bumper on by myself, and I had to buy some extensions for my ratchet, a rivet tool, and a small hacksaw blade to cut some polyurethane. My buddy and I got the rear underspoiler on in 12 hours. We took our time because I didn't want to mess it up. I had to buy a hole saw, a bunch of new drill bits, and a small ratchet set. Like an idiot, I took the car to a body shop for the side sills. It cost me an arm and leg to have the body shop install the side sills, and I wound up having to partially reinstall them because they didn't screw them in all the way. If I can do it, anybody can do it, just take your time.

 

Man I thought I was slow .

The front bumper took me probably 3 hours in the dark (pretty easy), the sides about an hour total (very easy), and the rear about 4 hours total (medium/hard). I did all the work by myself (I don't count my wife as help, she complained more than she helped). I had never done any type of bodykit/bodywork.

The rear is a little scary, all of it is DIY if you have the tools and some ability. I think a knowledgable shop could do the entire thing in 4-6 hours tops. If you do it yourself give yourself at least one full day, maybe a weekend if you take your time (it never fails that you will need a tool half way through like the rivet gun).

The sides are cake. The front is not hard as well but just requires some time (and additional tools as the others have stated).

I ended up paying $200 to have the rear section installed by a great body shop local to me.

Where abouts are you from G30 Fizzle? Bay Area California by chance?

 

I paid $250 to have the entire kit installed at a body shop... They did a pretty good job.

 

im from la. im getting it installed tommorow for 250 from my local body shop. i figured it will save me the hassle of putting it on. cant wait to see it. my car will finally be complete after 2 years because everything is so damn expensive for this car if you want it done right.

i have only one question for you guys. if the car isnt lowered do you ever get rubbing issues with the bumber on the ground when you hit dips or driveways. what scrapes first the bumper itself or the dust pan?

How much is the kit and where can you purchase one? From a dealer? And what about paint? Would a bodyshop paint it before installing or is it already painted?

Sorry about all the questions but it's time to start pouring some $$ into the G.

 

+1 Rear section is a BIATCH to install. Spent about 3hrs to install my bro-in-laws. Drilling, lining the wholes will be the toughest challenge.

 

I got my kit from Infiniti of Scottsdale Arizona who go by g35parts.com online. Everything came pre-painted.

After the bad experience with getting the side sills installed at the body shop, my friend convinced me we should install the rear underspoiler ourselves. To install the underspoiler right, you have to drill a bunch of holes, get everything lined up, and partially remove the rear bumper. My friend scared me into thinking a body shop might cut corners by cutting off the mounting bolts and just use autobody adhesive to glue the rear underspoiler to the bumper. Make sure you tell the body shop you want the instructions followed, not to just put the bumper on the best way they see fit. Just some friendly advice.

 

Aero kit (OEM kit) comes pre-painted from the factory. You can get it at g35parts.com (also known as everythingg35.com) as slowsocalg35 mentioned. That is also where I got my kit from. You can also order from your local dealer but that might cost more. Online anything usually equals some savings.

I put the sides and rear on in just under 2 hours. The rear does require drilling a lot of holes but if you have a unibit and a skew driver it will save you time.

They also didn't know what an Aero kit was. And this body shop is owned by the dealer. If anyone can recommend a body shop in Austin please do so now.

Sorry, I'm not in Austin, so no recommends...but...Wow! That's expensive! If its an Infiniti dealer, it sounds a bit strange that they don't know what the Aero Kit is, nor do they not have a pre-set installation rate. They should know exactly how long it takes and what the process is.

If you read the posts above, seems like $250 maybe the going rate...I could imagine some dealers charging about $400 at most (probably an 8 hour or less job).

I did the front and sides myself...the rear seemed too involved as it did to others, so I ended up paying a body shop $150 to install it. It took them a few hours and was a lot more involved than they expected. I'm glad I didn't spend a whole Saturday on it!

I know dealers in the San Francisco Bay Area charge about $180 + tax just for the rear install (about a 4 hr job). The sides are a piece of cake - you don't need to jack the car to remove/replace them...really easy. The front took me a few hours as I did it in the dark on my driveway (unning to pick up a rivet gun at 11pm from Home Depot!). But overall, fairly simple.

If you can take the time, I recommend doing the front and sides on your own..you'll save a few hundred dollars in the process. It may be worth it if you pay someone for the rear though - it requires removing the entire rear bumper.
