odd grinding noise

when i pull out down my driveway and hit the brackes on the desent, i hear a horrible nise that sounds like something is almost rewinding in the front end or something. i guess its the combination of sitting, being on an angle, and braking, and goes away when i stomp on the pedal. anyone know what this is from? 2005 sedan auto.

No, this doesn't sound like ABS check to me. ABS check happens within the first few feet of driving, and that's not what he's describing (at least it doesn't sound like it). Furthermore, I would't describe the ABS check as a "horrible noise" at all. It's quiet and almost imperceptible with the radio on.

I'd say have the dealer check the brakes.

You're lucky. I'd say he's describing the self check pretty well.

If you're headed down the driveway moving forward, not in reverse, I'd also bet it's the self-check. Mine usually occurs at about 10mph , usually when I'm about halfway down my fairly long, steep driveway. If I'm on the brakes at the time it checks, it's much louder, and you can feel it through the brake pedal. I usually creep slowly down the driveway so that the self-check doesn't occur until I'm off the brakes on a flat surface.

Yup, brake check. It's a bit unsettling, but standard.

If it is the ABS self test, it happens for a brief second or two after the car is started and reaches some 10 mph. My car performs this said test at 10 mph . . . It may vary. Is this what you are experiencing?

I think I am getting a similar sound even though I have a 03.5
Many times when I go up or down on a ramp (driveway), there is a sound similar to a scraping sound even though I went in at an angle. I don't have aftermarket suspension and my wheels are stock. It is a brief scarping type of sound but I never found out what it is when I mentioned it to service departments.
