Recal warranty charges

Brought car into Dealership this morning for the Fuel line recall. Just got a phone call, service guy said he was going to have to charge me 1.5 hours of labor @ $105 to remove the Borla Exh. system....... Stock system he says is just a couple of bolts and it drops right down......... After market system is has to be taken off in sections and go over the rear sway bar.......

Can anyone explain to me the difference between stock and a Borla system? How can a stock system go under the rear sway bar and borla go over the rear sway bar.

He also said that stock comes offf in sections and my system comes off in one piece......

thanks,
Miles

Crap, I was a little concerned about that. I too have Borla, and I need the fuel line repair performed. I have been holding off, because I'm afraid they are going to try to do the same thing. Personally I would refuse to pay, and see what they say. They are required to do the repair, and they might just have to suck it up.

i just got off the phone with Infiniti of Golden Valley Mn and they said htere would not be a charge. i was very specific on what i had and he assured me that they have to replace it not matter what. My next Appt. is on Mon.

I should have gone there in the first place but they are about 45 mins. away.

I went though something similar with my dealer. They tried to charge to inspect this or that to see if it's under warranty. I was like "I already told you the tsb # and described all the problems. There IS no inspection". They relented and waived the charges.

I think they are just drumming up charges to pad their invoice. You just have to make a stink about it. Most G owners just say "duh....okay" and voila, instant $100+ for something they were going to do anyway. $100 for a 10 second call. Not bad huh?

Tell you what, drill them. They say it takes an hour. Ask them the shop rate for the stock removal. I guess you could pay the diff (if there is one at all). It really should only take them about 20 min to take that exhaust off. Cripes, they got a 4 post lift, air tools up the ying yang and helpers if needed.

Actaully, tell them to include it in the warranty. Just make a big stink about it. Squeaky wheel gets the lube or whatever

..
You try that in Texas and they put a mechanics lien on your car! They have EVERY right to impound your car for non payment of even an oil change!

Try this on for size... Had the 7500 mile service on my Sedan and the SA noted on his walk around of my car that one of the wheels was scuffed up and asked me how particular I was about the car when he noted it. Told me about the wheel and then began to try to sell me on the wheel repair.

My G was aso in for wind noise in the back quater window, rattle in the door at the speaker and a whistle fro the engine bay during acceleration.

Got the call my car was ready, arrived at the stealership late with my kids so I did not get to review everything. As I am going down the road I hear the wind noise, speaker rattle and whistle. I later stop for gas and discover the scuffed wheel is still on the same position, umm excuse me the tires were to be rotated.

I also asked that the not fool with the air in the tires since they are filled with nitrogen. I review my service slip and to my dismay nothing could be "reproduced".

So I showed up un annocunced at the stealership the next morning and met my SA and began to tell the story of how the tech had gundecked my 7500 maint; I mentioned his annotation of the scufed wheel to wheel he went back to his notes and confirmed.

So I doubt even the oil was changed, the tech noted he adjusted the tire pressure which I had asked he not do so I do not know if he did or not.

So in the end I had the SA advisor confir the back window was leaking air . He called me from the car while driving it to tell me.

S I am not suprised when I hear these sorts of BS stories from the stealership.

Fortuneately, we have another dealer in my area that is on great terms with FGC so I am going to give them a shot. I am defintely not going back to the dealer where I bought the car. They have absolutely a revenue generating customer.

Well the intention was to refuse to pay before the service took place. What I'm saying is that Infiniti has a potential lawsuit on their hands if they don't take care of the procedure described. It is neither mine nor someone else's fault that we installed an exhaust system on what should have been a safe vehicle. This is their error, and they should take all measures to repair the problem, even if it does mean a little extra money out of their pocket for an extra half hour of labor. They are legally liable to offer a safe product to the consumers who use it.

sounds like a volation of the magnuson/moss act passed by congress in the 70s. Auto manufactures were voiding warranties becasue people did not use the OEM parts for things such as oil, air filter and exhaust

If he's trying to charge you for the recall work just tell him not to do it. Tell him you'll risk the car catching on fire based on their defective part.

See how long it takes for his boss to call you back.

The following are examples of prohibited tie-in sales provisions.

In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty.

yeah right. Hoestly I think it wouldn't be easier to take out a multi part exhaust system than one contiguos piece but I have not bee under the G nor have I seen any of the aftermarket exhaust systems. Are they really that big of a pian to remove and replace?
