2004 Tire Pressure Monitor & Snow Tires
Re: 2004 Tire Pressure Monitor & Snow Tires
I have a 04 Coupe w/ the tire pressure monitoring system and chged to aftermarket wheels and the light never came on. I think the light will come on if tire presssure drops to 28lbs and under. I do have 4 monitors I'm selling for $250 as well.......anyone interested?

So I'm the only one who ever saw the TPM dash light with sensor-less after market wheels?? If TurboFish is correct, why would this occur?

Re: 2004 Tire Pressure Monitor & Snow Tires
I actually had the light come on about 2 weeks ago, right before I pulled into a parking lot for a meeting. When I came back out and started the car, the light was off, and has stayed off.
I don't travel to that location all that often -- could there be some sort of RF interference that sets the light off?? I thought this was very strange...

Re: 2004 Tire Pressure Monitor & Snow Tires
I have aftermarket rims for my 2004 coupe, the light doesn't come on (I'd assume similar TPMS system for both the sedan and the coupe).... anyway, a few days ago, some ppl. in the Candian forum described the situation where the dash light turns on on the highway (they have aftermarket rims with no sensors)... one plausible explanation was that there is a built-in timer that turns on the light if the rcvr. in the car doesn't get any response form the sensors??... most ppl. were having the light go off on long drives on a highway, can someone confirm if the light came on during a short city drive with aftermarket rims ?

TurboF - if you run Roch to Buffalo on 90 anytime soon, check your dash light about half way. I'm going again next week so I'll be watching.

Re: 2004 Tire Pressure Monitor & Snow Tires
My light came on at the end of a roughly 30 mile highway drive...I will be making the same drive again in about 2 weeks, and will be sure to take the exact same route to see if something is setting off the TPM light.
I don't drive out to Buffalo all that much, so it might be awhile before I can test out the Thruway (I90) interference possibility.

Re: 2004 Tire Pressure Monitor & Snow Tires
Did the same drive today. Same route. Same time of day. The TPM light came on about 1 1/2 to 2 miles earlier than it did last month on the same drive. I'm wondering if there could be something in the area (intermittent RF intererence) that is triggering the TPM light. This is the 2nd time this has happened. I have been in the same area other times when the light never came on, though, so it's not consistent.
I guess the other possibilty is that the TPM does a self-check every so often (miles or minutes) after the car has been running. That would explain why it came on earlier in the drive today. It was snowing, so traffic was moving a bit slower than usual. If it is a self-check, it has never happened at the other end of the same 30 mile route. Very strange. Luckily, the light stays out when I restart the car.

Re: 2004 Tire Pressure Monitor & Snow Tires
I think the latter explanation may be more plausible. I did the Buffalo trip twice since and got the light again both times. Around the same location, but not exactly. Plus I've now got it two other times, different locations and very different circumstances (75-80mph x 2+hrs and 35-45mph x 2+hrs). Cruise on or off made no diff, either. I believe it is related to some self-diagnosis test triggered by steady speeds over a continuous time period. A little over an hour or usually does it for mine, so I'm actually surprised that we're not hearing more aout this. So far, neither my dealer tech or ICS can verify. At least it is a relatively small and unobtrusive dash light that automatically resets on a restart.
