hole in the door seal

I got a very strange problem with my G35 which I bought on 12/31/02. The driver's door black rubber seal (weather stripping) is completely worn out with a big hole in it. It looks like I rub against it getting into the car. Dealer will replace it on Wednesday but I'm still very unhappy with the quality of the seal - it feels very foamy and unsubstantial.

Re: hole in the door seal

Hey berman,

I got the same thing! I guess my *** is too big or I just sit too heavy! I showed the dealer the worn out section and they said they'd replace it no problem but I'm like why replace it now when I'll just wear through another one!!! I'm waiting until my warranty is nearly up to replace it. That way I keep the dealer happy and I won't have to replace it time and time again and keep on bringing it back for service! The less I'm there the better with my mods...

I'm not a small guy either - 6'2'' and 220 lbs. But I never had any problems with my cars before. I will replace it now bacause the frayed seal makes everything dirty around it.

Just curious.... Where is the worn area exactly.

I'm going to look for the problem myself.

I noticed the holes after I first got the car. The dealer was blaming it on me!
Now I noticed holes in the passenger side. There is no longer one hole but multiple holes. I will be taking it to dealer next week.

This weatherstripping is actually a second seal, i guess to keep things extra quiet.
I have not seen that seal on any other car. Not a good place for a seal! Especially a seal that rips with just a slight touch with a shoe!
I'll post details of visit. See if they blame me for multiple holes!
