7,000 RPMS, Seems High

This morning on the way to work a VR4 pulled up next to me and we just played a little bit in 2nd. But the next stop light he gave it and I gave and i ended up going over 7,000K and hit the rev limiter.

I know what the rev limiter is for and why it is in place, But I never had hit it before and was curious if any 5AT had hit 7,000k before, it just seems a little too high.

Just a thought!!!
Can't wait till 12:00 for the 07 sedan.

Funny that you mention that. The 07 G35 doesn't red-line until 7500 RPMs.

It's my understanding that as a "rev limiter", it limits your revs...i.e. you can't rev higher than the limit, and the fuel/throttle will cut out to prevent you from doing so. I can't remember off the top of my head what the redline is on the '04 5 AT (which I have). Are you saying you went OVER the redline?!

I'm not to worried, or should I be..

I think the actual red starts around 6800rpms on the tach, but the fuel cut doesnt hit until 7100-7200 or so. At least that is how it is on my 05X. And yes, in MM you can rev the engine over 7000 rpms - good at the track to gain another MPH or 2 in 3rd gear. 3rd gear hits 96 mph at the fuel cut - right at the 1/4 mile mark - I think my X may be geared slightly differently than the RWD's though, so this may only be pertinant to the X model cars.

I don't know that it matters if it happens here & there....just wouldn't make it a habit.
