Re: Should all the TSB's scare me away?

Um, the auto manufacturers don't go by "calendar year" in terms of releasing the car. It didn't come out on January 1st, you know. The '03 is more than a year old already-- I test-drove one in the mid-summer of '02. Sooo, knowing how many TSBs the Lexus received in September is arbitrary.

Also, if you look at TSB issue dates, you'll find that about 95%+ of them are issued well within the first year of production (the production year is OVER for the '03). Let's be extremely generous and say the G has only received 80% of the TSBs it will receive. Then the final numbers would be:

IS300- 36
G35- 30

More realistically, the G may receive 27-30.

Nothing against the IS300, but I just have to be logical

Re: Should all the TSB's scare me away?

I'm resurfacing this old thread if that's ok... just wondering if people are happy with Infiniti taking care of issues with the G35 well enough, as well as if you're still happy with the overall reliability of the car.

Thanks!

So far so good... they've taken care of everything on the first shot, minus one rattle problem which took two trips.

Wow, looking at my post when I wasn't a Mod and was just a "Gfreak" makes me all nostalgic *sniffle*

Most of the stuff, yes they have done a good job. On the pain from the seat controls they are currently flunking badly. Infiniti will fix this issue correctly or I am just gonna sell the damn thing. If it comes to that, I will be most unlikely to EVER buy an Infiniti again! I am tired of suffering every damn time I drive my $35,000 car!

GeoBau, Just curious, what was the rattle that took two trips to fix? And to all, I just checked AllData, and the only TSB's I could find for the G were 2003, I tried to see about 2004, and Infiniti isn't on the list there, yet! LOL, Lexus Truck is, but WTF is that?

The rattle was coming from the driver's side front door panel. They hadn't "fixed" it, as since it was a later 03.5, the fix had been performed in the factory. On the next trip, they just doubled up the padding and it disappeared.

Re: Should all the TSB's scare me away?

My car is almost a year old (June 03). I had a slight vibration at high speeds they ended up swapping all 4 of my tires... diagnosis was flat spots from shipping. Other than that trouble free not a problem car seems very solid to me.

Mine must be a later 03.5 because I don't have any rattles at all.

Did you end up buying a BMW? I don't like what they did with the 3 series at all definitely wouldn't buy one now

Thanks, GeoBau, I still have a very slight creak/rattle from my passenger side, dash area, but damned if it will do it now that it is warming up, I hear it very slightly every once in a while, I thought it was due to having my windshield replaced, but I took it back to the glass shop, and they spent almost an hour going over it to make sure it wasn't from them!

Re: Should all the TSB's scare me away?

Well, I'm actually still on the fence.

My wife has a co-worker that has a first-year G35. He had a lot of little niggling issues with it that soured him on it. But none were show stoppers. I'm fairly confident most of those things have been addressed.

That's why I resurrected this post.

But... I'll create a new post about "being on the fence." :-)

I had the rear parcel shelf rattle fixed about 10 mo. ago. When winter hit it returned with a vengeance. Last wed. they fixed it again. The Bose sounds quite good again without the rattles. I hope it STAYS fixed this time!

Re: Should all the TSB's scare me away?

I just traded my '99 328i for a G35x in January. My G35x has been flawless since driving it off the lot, but I really can't speak to long-term durability. The 328i was actually a great car that gave me a few minor problems, but never left me stranded. Unfortunately, the ABS system went after just 5 years (50k miles) and I was quoted close to $2500 by two dealers to fix it. Honestly, though, that might have been a problem with just my car. Overall it held up very well and I have to say that the engine definitely got better with age. When I look back, that's the only thing I remember about the car, really - that great noise/feel of running the I-6 to the redline. I love my G's 260HP/Torque, but there's something special about a BMW I-6.

That said, in the end, I stayed away from BMW when looking to replace my 328i. Part reliability, part value equation. I must say that my G gives me every bit of the driving pleasure I got from my BMW (the VQ35 is an incredible engine...amazing torque), it feels more solid in terms of squeaks and rattles, and came in at 7k less than a comparably equipped BMW (that includes the 7-year/100k mile extended warranty I got on the G). Infiniti being at the top (along with Lexus) of JD Power and Consumer Reports long-term reliability ratings definitely helped push me in the G's direction as I plan to be driving this car into the next decade at least.

Just my $0.02. Whatever your decision, if it's between the 330i and the G35, you're going to come out pretty well. =) Good luck!

Re: Should all the TSB's scare me away?

It's a pretty well known fact that first year production cars have the most issues. That's why I waited to get the 04 G35c.

Wow... that CR chart is awfully telling. I don't trust CR for any of their car reviews, but for simple stat stuff, they're good.

Thanks.
