Wind Deflector - Wind Noise

Just wondering if anyone has installed a wind deflector for the sunroof. Does it reduce the wind noise when driving on the highway? By how much?
Thanks

Re: Wind Deflector - Wind Noise

I had a wind deflector on my '99 Maxima before I traded it... basically it increased the wind noise, but kept the air out of the cabin. Also, be extremely careful if you do choose to put one on your G, as if you don't take it off and clean underneath it (where it comes in contact with the paint) it *absolutely* will leave a mark on your roof.

I put one on my G and on the wife's Maxima. They allow the
sun roof to be open without catching huge ammounts of air.
Have not noticed any noise from it on the highway. If you are asking
does it reduce wind noise when the sun roof is open, you bet it
does! By a whole lot as a matter of fact.

Re: Wind Deflector - Wind Noise

Had prelude that I put a wind deflector on. Cut down on wind and noise but does wear the paint where it touches and it had a tendency to vibrate at certain speeds. Solved that by custom modifying it to reduce the amount of unsupported plastic. Worked great.

I would not put one on the G as it would make it look too much like an old mans car. My wife already thinks it is (she wanted the FX35) and while you are at it put on the side window wind deflectors too.

Just kinding, do what you want and you will be happy

What's wrong with the built-in wind deflector that pops up when the sunroof opens?

I'm just going to ignore your cutting nasty remarks. I like to drive
with my sunroof open at times without air gushing into the cabin.
The sunroof wind deflector serves it's purpose very well, thank you!
With the A/C on and the sun roof open, it stays cool inside with the
roof open. So If you don't like it, just FOAD!

Re: Wind Deflector - Wind Noise

ryoken,

I'm not aware of a built in wind deflector. There is a thin piece of
metal that pops up when the roof is open, but it does not deflect
air over the open roof. When the sun roof is open, it acts like a
wind sock catching air. Anyone who sits in the back seat with the
roof open will testify to that.
