HELP: very quiet beeping in my car??

I was up and out very early this AM and, for once, didn't turn on the radio. I noticed a very soft beep coming from somewhere in the dash, every 10 seconds or so. I could only hear this when idling, not when actually driving - it was that quiet. The beeping continued after I shut the engine off. When I got back into my car 1 hour later, the beeping started up after I started the engine. There are no idiot lights on and if I didn't have pretty good hearing, I wouldn't have noticed it at all. I've confirmed that it's definitely coming from the vehicle, as opposed to some lost cell phone or electronic device. Any ideas what this might be???

Thats strange, I've never heard of that and can't think of anything off the top of my head. I'd just stop by the dealer and have them take a listen.

That's the gremlin in in the G... he loosens the driver's seat, disconnects the brake light switch and messes with the AC and radio connections.... watch out... he can be a little annoying.

You've heard of this before? Any idea what is causing the beep?

I was being facecious....but then my caring G35driver.com side came back...

Actually, I'd like to know if it is a "loud" beep, or simply a low hum or electrical noise.

It could be
A) something left in the car (cell phone etc..)

B) what about the blinking alarm light...it draws power and could be making noises.

Did you add any aftermarket devices?

Re: HELP: very quiet beeping in my car??

Thank you, caring G35driver.com specialist.

It is a very quiet beep. It's so quiet that it's just audible when the car is idling and not audible when under way. I verified that I had no cellular or electronic devices in the vehicle. I've added no after market devices.

Yes, in fact, the beep does seem to coincide with the alarm light - maybe this is just electronic noise and I'm a paranoid G35driver.com pleab?

Re: HELP: very quiet beeping in my car??

I was going to suggest the same-- PDA, cell, etc. left in the car? Did the beeping happen in the same place? You said only when idling-- do you hear it at stop lights? If not, could it be something in your garage (hey, gotta explore all possibilities). Can you find out where in the dash it's coming from? I'll go check mine out to see if I can find a beep Good luck with this, and let us know,

Re: HELP: very quiet beeping in my car??

sounds like yo may have a floating gorund with a diabled factory alarm and the red warning light. Have the dealer check it out. The alarms are all installed, but disabled if you do not purchase. Not sure on the G, as i was not offered and alarm with the purchase, but this was the case with a couple GM cars I had. They diabled the actual alarm function, and indoing so left a floating ground and the alarm warning light was actually picked up by the piezo serving the alarm in the car.

have the dealer check it... thats what a warranty is for. you didn't create the condition, but they need to figure it out and fix it!

cheers, Ted

Re: HELP: very quiet beeping in my car??

I hear some funny clicks, pops, and squeaks after startup from the same area, and I assumed it was the navi somehow booting up and readying itself for when you turn it on.
I also hear a similar sound when doing the easy ECU reset. Not sure of the connection there.

I hear the same little beep. It doesn't coincide with the red led security light either. You're not the only one, Townsley. I must have the gremlin also.

Re: HELP: very quiet beeping in my car??

I have it too. It sounds like it's way into or behind the dashboard. It's quiet enough that tilting openning the sunroof with mask it completely. I have noticed is the beep is not there when the car is not running. It is also quieter than the CD changer spinning up. I do not have the $2,000.00 Thomas Guide, so that's not it either. I figure I will bring it up when I go back for the 15K visit. Let us know it anyone has had this problem and worked it out!

G35/S/MT....this car rocks!

Re: HELP: very quiet beeping in my car??

Gads - not a TIME BOMB! I'm *really* glad to hear that someone else has experienced this - misery loves company I guess. Everything else seems to be working fine, though. I called the Dealer and they had never heard of it before. They suggested I bring the car in so they can check it out. The problem is that it's so quiet, I don't know if they'll even be able to hear it unless there's very little ambient noise.

I first noticed the sound while at a stop light, so it can't be anything in my garage. It's precicely every 10 seconds, so definitely something electric/mechanical, as opposed to just random engine noise. Radio off, no cell, no pager, etc. My greatest fear is that the dealer will suggest it has something to do with my 350Z tube/K&N/grounding kit. I'd hate to have to remove those mods just to make sure...

I'll be taking the car in sometime in the next week. I'll let you know what/if they find anything. Thanks for all the replies!
