Thinking about going G sedan, but...
Is mileage really as bad as everyone says? I am looking at just a base model as I was looking at a TSX with Navi, but can get a base G for the little less, so I am pretty sure I want to go this route, but mileage is kind of scaring me...
you should be able to pull down 24-26 on the highway at 80....just don't accelerate hard!!!!
while cruising on the highway at 82, the economy gauge (on the navi) shows about 26.
My combined mileage is usually around 16-17, according to the navi computer

It all depends on how you drive the car. I hammer on mine and I have never gotten lower than 16.9 MPG or higher than 18.4 MPG. I know for a fact if I drove like my wife I would get 20 easily.
I don't really know if that is bad or good comparatively speaking. I wasn't concerned at all about it coming from a 4X4 F-150 that was getting 11 MPG.

Depends on where you live. If you live in an area with heavy stop and traffic, the MPGs are actually better because you hardly use any rpm. I typically see 19-20mpg with 100% city, 22-23mpg in 50/50 city-highway, and 26-27mpg in 100% highway at 70-75mph. My G35 is a 5at.

I only have 800 miles on my 06 X (not even broken in) and its getting 21mpg. Its maybe 50/50 city/hw and I dont drive it slow... not sure how thats possible but i wont complain.

Remember TSX has 80-98 less hp and only 4 cylinder. It better gets more mileage from the G.
Don't think comparing a TSX and a G35 is a like for like comparison. Comparing 300hp car for another 300hp car might be more appropriate.
I was looking at the two myself originally, but then decided I liked
1. Rear Wheel Drive
2. Torque
3. Horsepower
4. Nissan engineering
Over what the TSX has to offer.
TSX is more great bang for the buck. I chose for excitement over the bang.
I get OK gas mileage, but too often feel the urge to stomp on the gas which doesn't too well for mileage. I average 19-20 on a fair mix of local/highway. Hard to make a decision with this comparison on gas mileage alone.

TSX is a nice little car. I emphasize little. I've driven them, and they're nice - probably the best car in their segment. Unfortunately, the G35 is in a different class. At least in my opinion.
I get good mileage in my sedan - compared to other cars with the same specs. I'm a casual driver - not a boy racer. I usually average around 19 pure city stop and go. With an occasional trip to town (70 mile round trip, two lane road, 55 MPH speed limit, two stop lights) I average about 24. On a recent cross country trip from Texas to Washington state my wife pulled 28 MPG over 3000 miles at an average 68 - 75 MPH steady state.
I've done the math and I'm satisfied with the mileage I get. I knew going in that it would be less than I got in my Maxima. Do the math and see how much money you'd really be saving if you bought the lesser car. I think you'll be surprised.
TSX = 25MPG average / 18000 miles per year x 3.25 a gallon = 2340.00
G35 = 19MPG average / 18000 miles per year x 3.25 a gallon = 3078.00
Difference is about $750 bucks a year, but I don't drive anywhere near 18000 miles a year. It comes down to about an extra tank a month.

First off, the G35 is not an econobox. If fuel economy is your only criterion, look elsewhere.
Secondly, if you really look at most of the posts which bellyache the most about gas mileage, many of the posters don`t even know how to compute it! Really! They say something like, "I only get 237 miles on a tank!" Was it full to start, and empty at the end, or what? They don`t say. The folks above seem to have given you some straight poop. Their experiences match mine, roughly 19-20 mpg in mixed driving.
YMMV!
