Hey Ian, need a little more cajoling? A new dyno, the guy who ran it says this dyno typically gives conservative numbers. I'll let the dyno speak for itself then.

I should also mention, in my G35/E92 comparison, I'm comparing a coupe to a sedan. The E92 is quite different from the E90. And the G35 C is different from the G35 sedan.
A true test will come when the G35 coupe becomes available-

That new number shows STD numbers which are not the industry standard. The industry standard is SAE numbers which would be lower... still quite impressive though for a stock car.

 

Ahh the S4/RS4 - I've been thinking about springing for the RS4 if the new G does not work out. My friend bought a '06 RS4 and it is just wonderful, but I’m not sure if I want to spend $70K on a car.

Driving is amazing..... it's just always there, untill it gradually runs a little short of breath after 5600.
This car is just plain fun, to drive

 

IMO, one of the best features of the G35 is the tilting of the gauge cluster with the wheel, there is never a blind spot from the wheel.

Good point, seeing that my 1st encounter of this feature was on a Ford Probe; but no one picked it up thereafter instead of Infiniti. It's a nice feature.

 

HUD seems to have come & gone on a few other cars,
but never really took off either.

 

Actually it is making a comeback on certain German models.

 

Is HUD a useful feature, or is it more of a distraction while driving? I have never driven a car with HUD.

 

It's a "line-of-site" display whereas one can only acquire the image by focusing on a particular space were the HUD is projecting. It's also considered a hologram - although it's projected onto the windshield, it actually appears to be floating over the front of the car; off to the left in the systems that I've seen.

BMW, Mercedes and I think Cadillac are all using HUD's again, and I actually like it a-lot. In it's infancy w/GM, the HUD would only project speed, turn signals, ect. Now they are configurable: Radio info, Bluetooth integration [in-coming call info] ect. I think it's a great system and keeps the driver looking at the road instead of the on-board displays; so to me, it's not a distraction at all. Some studies have shown that some people can get the "blinking clock" syndrome: where one is always looking at the display rather than the road because it's there. This coupled w/the cost of the system is the reason why the availability is very limited and it always an option if available.

 

I've driven cars with Hud and found it very distracting and during the day with certain lighting in the bright sun it was very difficult to see. Then again it could be my rotten eyesight.
