it all depends. it depends on the file size of the song and what they are encoed too. like when you see and ad by Ipod saying it holds 5,000 songs. that isnt entirely true. they base that on 96kbps encoded songs averageing 3:min a song.
first, do yourself a favor and never listen to a mp3 encoded at 96kbps. that is like am radio quality. 128, which most mp3s out there are, still need better ooomph. i personally, if listening to mp3's listen to no less the 256 or 320kbps. then of course you get into the flac, shn, and wav file arguments which are a lossless formats. mp3's the more they get copied they lose quality......
so with all my mumbo jumbo i just said, basically 9.5 Gigs is gonna be different for almost everyone....there isnt a "___" number of songs

Yes, it can vary greatly. On my computer at work I have 8.37 GB of music, which is 1,825 songs. At that rate, I could fit a little over 2,000 songs on a 9.5 GB hard drive.Originally Posted by Minarets

Like others have stated, it will depend on the file size of the mp3 and the encoding. I would say on average that you should get at least 2000 songs on the 9.5gb hd. Don't forget that you also have the compact flash slot as well. I have a 2gb compact flash card as well, so I am all set. I doubt very much that I will use the trunk mounted disk changer very much at all.

does the HD come along with the navi? no navi=no hd?
if it can hold 1000+ songs i think its more then enuf already

In my experience with iPod, you will be able to fit so many songs onto the HDD you won't even be able to find the right song half the time.

I'm pretty sure you can't just dl music in your format of choice.
If they're using full audio disk file format... ( & they may because of copywrite BS)
then the 9.5G will get chewed up in a hurry.
Still.... far better than what the G has now.
JMO... I'd rather have a proper ipod link like I have now.
For me it would be hard to go back to anthing else.

I am not sure if ripping the MP3s will need to go from the CD or if you can use the compact flash card or not, but I would doubt that the HD only supports audio disk format. That wouldn't make much sense to me considering you can play MP3s from the CDs themselves.Originally Posted by inTgr8r
