Can a G35 be factory-ordered?

... meaning, if the dealer can't locate a car with the colors and equipment I want within a reaonable period of time, can the dealer order one for me from the factory in Japan, assuming I'm willing to wait for production and delivery?

I would be interested in a Sport MT '07 G35. Probably about 5%-10% of '07 G35s will be Sport MT models. Think that's low? Only about 15% of American drivers can even work a manual transmission. On top of that, I don't want a spoiler or a black interior, and I suspect that a very high proportion of Sport MT cars will have one or both. Finally, I want all the optional goody packages - Premium, Technology, Navigation. The odds of my finding a spoiler-free, fully-loaded '07 G35 Sport MT with a gray interior and an acceptable exterior color just sitting on the dealer's lot are approximately nonexistent. Thus my quesiton.

Sure you can. If you don't mind the wait, the dealer will happily take your order. I have factory ordered two vehicles in the past. The downside is that you have to wait, but the good thing is that you get EXACLTY what you want.

OK, good to hear. Cars made in North America (including Japanese brands) can be factory-ordered, and at least some German cars can be factory-ordered, but I didn't know about cars made in Japan.

This used to be the case among Asian manufactures about 10 yrs ago, but now this is just a misconception as I understand it.

Exclamation

That's assuming they have the cars. I put down a $1000 deposit and ordered a G35 sedan 6MT silver/black with bodykit 9/03 and I waited 6 months and they couldn't get me a car so in 4/04 I got my deposit back and bought an Acura TL 6MT with A-Spec. It's a great car but it is FWD and doesn't have the VQ. Assuming it's as good as it looks in person, I'll be ordering a 2007 G35S 6MT and hope that they have the cars this time arround.

Factory ordered ... YES.
Special Order .... NO
You won't be able to break up packages.

Right. I realize that I'll still be limited to the combinations of packages, options, colors etc. offered by Nissan and that I can't order cafeteria-style (e.g., no beige interior and wood trim on a Sport model).

If they don't have what I want and I end up factory ordering, how long does it generally take?

should not exceed 4mths under any circumstances.
the dealer can put in the order with their next allotment. from then they get an order #/code that confirms the order is in from then you will wait 3mths or so.

Is the price pre-negotiated before you make the factory order? I might wait for VPP (a 6 month wait = April). If I want a factory order I order it months before April, and the dealer (if they even do VPP) will honor the VPP price once the car has arrived?

My dealer in Orange County, CA told me the initial shipments will be what Infiniti sends them and no special orders or special allocations will occur. I'm sure down the road you can order the car any way you want it.

Maybe it is just for that specific dealership. I already placed my factory order almost two months ago.

Is it a true factory order, or is it a dealer search/swap?? Just curious, because if it's a factory order, then the mfg. should be able to provide status even as the vehicle is being shipped....the dealer search is shady practice if you ask me! On a G35 the car would probably be driven, not put on a flatbed. I saw a new (as in dealer owned) 2k6 G35 coupe from VA on the NJ Turnpike being driven rather agressively...I sure wouldn't want to be the person receiving that car.
