This way, you'll have no regrets. I'm going completely fully loaded with my 2007 Infiniti G35x AWD ( or 2007 Infiniti G35 Sport ).
I think you are totally right--it should be all or nothing. Say the $2000 were somehow something you just could not do, you've called all your markers, begged borrowed and stole, and still couldn't do it. Just wait until you can do the 2k, don't settle. I can't imagine spending 38k and not having what you truly wanted. That very thinking pushed me into the 335i--6,700 more (I based it on 38k for the G35S) and I was into what truly made my heart skip a beat. That 6,700 was not a joke to me, I lost sleep over it but decided to cash in a mutual fund that's a dog anyway...and 2,100 came into play--I said navigation was "nice," but the list price with another 2,100 insulted everything I know about what I should spend on a car, so I nixxed it! And I actually feel good about it, not bad.

Again, moral of the story, get what you want. If you can't get it today, you can always wait, these cars aren't going anywhere, and the price will naturally go down over time. So be patient...
