Just to throw a little more gas on the fire, the dealer (Chicago area) mentioned that I should be fine without AWD if I just put snows on the 18s for the winter. The car should handle fine and he referenced the M35/45 RWD as an example. What's funny is that this is the second dealer to tell me this, both mentioning weight distribution as a major factor.

Has anybody heard a similar opinion on this?
Assuming you don't live in some deserted area where the roads are not being plowed, you should be all set. I went through winter here in CT on A/S tires (not even winter) mounted on my stock 18"s. Granted, it wasn't like driving an AWD with winter tires, but it was still good enough to get me from home to work and back.

That's all I needed to hear! 2007 Infiniti G35 Sport here I come! Thanks Speedoholic, you constantly talking about the paddle shifters, 18" wheels, seats, etc. on the G35 Sport has made me change my mind and I'll probably be getting a G35 Sport over the G35x AWD now.

Haha. I know man. Damn G35 Driver! Here's how I decided upon the G35 Sport:

1. $2,000 less than the G35x AWD.
2. Would have to buy winter or all season tires ( roughly $500 ), but you'd still be saving roughly $1,500.
3. Paddle shifters.
4. Nicer / more adjustable seats.
5. Nicer stitching on the steering wheel.
6. The front fascia on the G35 Sport is growing on me.
7. 18" wheels.
8. More aggressive side sills.
9. More aggressive stance.

All these extra things and the G35 Sport would still be roughly $1,500 less in the end. Done deal! Come to the darkside.

I agree with everything said. I'm debating between the AWD and sport as well. I'm going to the launch party on the 26th and I know that the sport will appeal to me much more than the AWD model. I can tell this just by looking at the massive amount of pictures that have been floating around the forum. When looking at the two models, the AWD/non sport just seems...bland.

2. Would have to buy winter or all season tires ( roughly $500 ), but you'd still be saving roughly $1,500.Where can you get winter tires and rims for $500
3. Paddle shifters. That would be nice
4. Nicer / more adjustable seats. That would be nice
5. Nicer stitching on the steering wheel . Never thought of that as a selling point
6. The front fascia on the G35 Sport is growing on me.Hasn't grown on me yet, I like the stock facia better
7. 18" wheels.Don't like them, IMHO they are ugly, would replace
8. More aggressive side sills.Agree
9. More aggressive stance.Agree cause the rwd sits lower

Slick... if you live an area with bad drifting, lots of snow then you would rather fight than switch. An X would be in your driveway.
The X RULES in those conditions. I never worry about the roads when my wife has to commute through them. This is the main reason for our X. Our car has saved our bacon a couple of times.
If you don't have those conditions or have a winter beater, then I totally agree the RWD sport is a winner .
The only car that will replace our X would be another AWD.

You can get winter or all season tires for roughly $500 - $600. I wasn't planning on buy wheels with the winter / all season tires. I would just put the winter / all season tires on the stock 18" G35 Sport wheels. Also, the roads where I live are always plowed so I'm not really worried about that.

I don't recall the stitching on the Sport vs. AWD being different...I thought it was the same wheel...what's the difference?

Also, the same for the side sills...I know the front fascia is different, but I thought the side sills are the same.

The G35 Sport's steering wheel has "contrasting stitching for better grip." ( http://www.infiniti.com/allnewG/allNewG.html ) The side sills are slightly different on the G35 Sport, but they're noticeable when you see the car in person ( especially when it's parked right next to a G35x AWD ).

No problem bro. Just be careful

Be prepared to get a few drifts, but those are totally worth it. Think of the summer days running back on the Bridgestone Potenzas!!!

Twisties... here I come....
