Carseats in '07 G35

I realize this thread may not be as popular as others but some may find it useful....

My wife and I are considering the new G sedan. We checked it out at the Miami car show last weekend. There were 2 pre-production models and they looked great. We could not sit in either but two things caught our eye given that we plan on putting two Britax Marathon carseats in the back seat.

1) the rear seat outboard headrests are very large and might make it difficult to cleanly install the large Britax Marathon carseats (maybe other toddler seats as well). These seem to be even larger than those on the current G.

2) the front drivers seat must have been all the way back... but there seemed to be only about 4-5 inches max of room between the back of the driver's seat and the front edge of the back seat. I'm 5'11", so I am hoping it won't be as bad as it appeared when adjusted for my height.

Anyone else thinking of putting carseats in the back of the '07 G35 sedan? Any thoughts on whether they will fit? Owners of the 1st gen G with carseats may have good input too since the cars are similar sized.

Thanks for any input.

I use a rather large but top rated car seat for our 2 yo daughter. it is rated as the safest on the market but it takes a lot of space. It does fit however. The LATCH hooks are far more difficult to get to than the ones in our v@n. (i wouldnt normally use such vulgarity!!!) But with some practice you get used to it and find them on the first try. As for the head rest, it is in the trunk. there is no catch for the highest adjustment so every time i would shove my arm through to hook the upper teather it would push off. So it is in the trunk unless an adult needs the seat.

My wife is tall but not as tall as me so the child seat goes behind the passenger seat. She is comfortable pulling the seat far enough forward that Mackenzie cant kick it non stop. When i really dont feel like driving i can sit over there as well just not as comfortably!

Thanks for the input. I should also mention, that from what I could tell on the '07 G, the rear headrests can't be removed like they apparently could on the existing G35. Maybe this was just a pre-production thing.... if they can be removed on the '07 that would help.

Anyone know if the rear headrests on the '07 can be removed?

Also, I would think that the ability to recline the rear seats on the 1st gen G (with premium pkg?) helps in fitting in the car seats. This feature also is not available on the '07 from what I have heard.

the reclining seat does help because it can match the angle of the seat great. for adults however they are useless. the recline too high in your back and shove you out of the front of the seat.

I own an 05 G35 sedan and I have two children that I take to daycare in it every morning. I have the youngest(8 months old) in a slightly smaller Britax than the Marathon. I have the oldest child 3 years old in a booster seat. The Britax sits in the middle of the back seat and the booster is on the passenger side. I had to do this because I am almost 6’4” and I have the put the drivers seat all the way back. No child seat would fit behind the driver’s seat when I am driving. Well not unless you can stand your 3 year old kicking your seat all day. I can tell you this. The G35 definitely fits the car seats better than the 330i I had before it. In fact I got rid of the 330i because I couldn’t get my son out of the car seat once he got a little taller. The door frame on the BMW was just too small to lift a child through. The G35 is actually a very good car for accommodating child seats. It does pale in comparison to the best car for car seats, The Honda Odyssey! It is a breeze to get the kids in and out of the mommy bus. However, my wife likes to say that “She has to check her mojo at the door when she hops into the minivan”! It is not cool but it is practical. The G35 on the other hand is quite practical and oh so cool!

I have a 4 yr. old and a 12 week old [both girls - WTF] and I have no problem transporting the kids in the G if I have to. I have an RX350 that I use mostly in these cases, but there are occasions that I need to put them back in the G. I will say that if you have the driver seat all-the-way-back as I do, you'll have to put the infant seat on the passenger side because; at least for my seat, it needs more room then what is there.

I also have a Recaro child seat for my 4 year old and will be purchasing a second one as well for my 12 week old when she is big enough. These seats are fantastic and are the only seat that looks great in a sports car, and support the child during aggressive driving – but they are $$$$.

I have the Midnight Flash color: http://www.recaro.com/index.php?id=1923&region=3&L=2

Thanks for the insight. I was sorta considering the 335i sedan but worried about back seat space for carseats. This makes the g35 a better choice for my next vehicle in a few months.

Mind giving details on this carseat ? (Not that I personally have use for this info, but would be useful to know nevertheless !)
