I believe it was claimed to be new with better shifting capabilities; but is this true? I hear a good amount of complains about it from posters on this forum and now it's starting to worry me. This is definitely a big downside for the car as evidenced by it's horrendous gas mileage. Looks like the 6MT is the way to go; but then I'd probably wait for a coupe if I was in that market.

I don't know if the AT is new, improved or the same for '07 and I'm not sure what you mean by "better shifting capabilities". All I can suggest is that you take a nice long drίίve in an AT and make up your own mind, and don't let other people make up your mind for you. During my brief drίίve in the '07 last week I was impressed by the quick, positive shifts, with the shift points in correct proportion to the throttle applied. Manual downshifts with the paddle shiftеrs were right now, very very quick. It sure seemed more sophisticated and more fun than the 5-spеed AT in my BFD '03 E500.
I would still go for an MT over an AT, but that's not because I have a negative opinion of the AT. Based upon my (admittedly) brief trial, AT buyers have nothing to fear from the '07 AT.
Oh, and what's "horrendous" about the EPA-predicted gas mileаge? For a 300HP+, under-six-seconds-0-to-60 cаr, 19/26 is not shabby at all. I have close personal knowledge of another 300HP+, under-six-seconds-0-to-60 cаr EPA-rated at 17/23, that actually gets around 18 MPG in mixed drίving.

Yea, well we're not talking actually MPG just EPA estimates for comparison. If I bought a 07 G and it actually did 23MPG from mixed driving I would be ECSTATIC, i'm worried that a 19/26 rating means I'm going to get a nice 16MPG and that would really suck.Originally Posted by DWP

Anyway, I'll check it out but I have always known this was the one shortcomming of the G. I wish so much they could have put a nicely ratioed 6 speed gives great accelleration and better mpg.

My '03 G gets 26 on the highway and quite often in the low 20's in mix driving and I don't have a light foot.
If only around town then I see 18 -19mpg.

But on a serious note; I worry about the G35's gas mileage. The ES350 gets amazing mileage and BMW's 328i does as well. Small price to pay; but still a shortcomming

Sad to say, the 07 transmission is the same as the 03-06. Not that it was bad to begin with, but Infiniti could have at least put in a higher overdrive gear than 0.833 for better highway mileage.

When it came out it got great reviews.
They tweeked the tcu/software along the way ('05?)
But, it's just getting a little long in the tooth.
With the recent advent of DSG & DCT trannys.... the recent intro of BMWs slick AT in the 335;
Infiniti/Nissan must be feeling pressure lately to improve it.
I would suspect we'll see some changes in the offing.

so is the 6spd the same or the automatic the same?
I've owned an '02 maxima 6spd, and I liked the gears just fine. I'm not sure if they are the same ratio, but if the G35 had those, or even closer, I would be happy.
Any hereditary problems with the 6spd though?

IIRC they added an extra level of synchros.
Most mag reviews liked the gear box.... some thought the clutch a little on the heavy side.
I'm anxious to try the 6mt in the new sedan.

Does the G's engine like to rev high?
My TL loves to rev high and stay there. Since its Vtec engagement is up at around 4700 rpm. I can hold 2nd or third up well in the 5,000 and up to the redline all day.
Do infiniti engines behave this way as well?
Also, my TL automatically shifts into 2nd when in SS mode. I hear that you can hold first gear all the way up to redline in the G. Is this true?
