How do you record music to the HD when

the trunk-mounted CD-changer doesn't record music to the hard disk/drive (according to page 4-46 of the owner's manual/PDF file) ? According to another thread, you can't transfer music from your compactflash to the hard disk/drive either so what am I missing here ?

When I read the thread about the CF, I thought at least you could use the trunk-mounted CD-changer (the only option when you get the nav, there's no single-CD player in the dash) until I read this page in the owner's manual. I think I missed something, but for some reason everytime I go over the other thread, I can't find it.

Using the in-dash CD player.

Even with the Nav, the in dash CD player remains ... its just that the in dash unit is a single player (without nav you get in dash cd changer)

that's the only way to get music on the HD

What max said!! Plus, you are supposed to be able to hold the record the button for a second or two and it will record faster than normal. Like, 2-3 songs per each song listened to, but haven't tried it yet.

Nope - no mp3 cds .... only plain ol' "audio" CDs

Kinda dumb if you ask me ..... I mean if Infiniti is so much in bed with the RIAA, they should not allow even playback of mp3s !!!
Damn RIAA

Then what format is put onto the HD? If you are just copying the songs, uncompressed, then 9.5gigs will only fit about 12-14 albums. That would really suckKKKK.

So you can't put MP3's/WMA's on the HD?

This whole music box is looking useless

Its encoded internally into mp3 (105kbps or 132 kbps) - which is what makes this whole thing a big scam.

It wants to re-encode songs to mp3 --- they just don't want you to supply the mp3 to begin with - duh- !

The music box HD is limited to a max. of 3000 tracks.

- only 9.3 gigs of space
- best quality: 132 kbps
- can't record CDs with MP3 files
- trunk-mounted CD-changer (which takes alot of space/makes it difficult/impossible to load some items)

This sucks.

It might suck enough to keep me from getting the car. They integrated the stereo so freaking much with the dash that an aftermarket stereo install seems unlikely.. I don't want a freaking LCD screen in my dashboard...

So far I'm pretty happy with the Music Box functionality. I picked up some Ultra-Speed CDRW media and have just been loading stuff on as I go driving!

The quality could use some work, and I'd really, really love to clone the drive over to a ~80 GB drive instead and that way I could eventually move my whole library over instead of just a third to a fourth of it.
