Winter tires and steel rims

I have an old set of winter tires on steel rims which have only seen one winter. I want to put these on my new 07 G35 X but was told that I could not because I need to add the tire pressure monitors which aren't available yet. The dealer suggested they take the tires off the rims and put them on My G's mags. I don't want to do this because winters around here are rough and I don't want to bang up my new rims, besides I bought these other tires to avoid doing this in the first place. Anyone have any knowledge on how to get the tire pressure monitors, can they be bought and if so can they can be added to my steel rims.

If your steel rims will fit your new G, don't woorry about the TPS monitors, lots of people run without them (including me) no problem.

Does the car continually complain about the tire pressure without the monitors in place?

On my 05 I have never heard an alarm. The light comes on once in a while when running no sensors, but only after driving like 30-50miles on one trip. After you shut the car off, it resets and the light is no longer on. I would guess the tire light came on only about a dozen times or so last winter with no sensors in the tires. It never really bothered me.

Thanks - I guess it'll be a while before the sensors become more readily available and prices for them fall so I'll give it a shot without for now.

Exactly, try for this season, I'm sure you will find it's no problem.

Is there any way to turn off the TPM for the new G?

According to the manual, it doesn't look like you can turn the TPMS off.

Since the new G gets a nice display and the dial, it wouldn't be hard to program it to be configurable as an user option. Not sure why Infiniti didn't include it into one of the setting menu...

Any problems with the steel rims? I'm also thinking of picking up some cheap(ish) alluminum or steel rims for winter tires. Any suggestions around Toronto?

I have always run blizzaks in the winter on all my cars (amazing), and I would like to do this with my G35x, here's what I've found out:

Found rims/tires/monitors at TireR__k , reasonable... I'd be willing to pay

Then I found out the sensors must be synced with the car from the dealership by using the consult. This adds $60-80 every spring AND fall to the swap out and a 40 mile drive to the dealearship.

This I'm not willing to do so I will take my chances on the idiot light, which bothers me greatly.

Someone please tell me I'm wrong...

the idiot light blinks for the first minute the car is running (or roughly 25-50 miles after the first time you swap on the rims without the TPMS sensors). After that it just stays solidly lit. No beeping, no noise.

It's not that annoying, however it's slightly brighter (maybe due to the different color) than the rest of the gauge lights, so it stands out a little, but once you get used to it, you don't even notice it.

I ran all last winter without TPMS.

does this mean that when you take off the winter tires/rims and put back the summer tires/rims, you have to go back to the dealer to sync the TPMS? or will the TPMS automatically recognize the summer tires/rims?

I too have run Blizzaks on my last two X's.
I mounted my Blizzaks on the stock rims with sensors, and run aftermarket rims with no sensors in the summer. The light stays on all the time without the sensors but I don't even notice it. No problem at all.

When you put your wheels back on with the sensors the car automatically recognizes them, you do not have to go to the dealer.
