so after Gorn bought and installed the stillen front plate bracket, i thought about doing similar using the tow hook (theres a diy somewhere for the 03-06's) but instead of mounting the plate in the middle of the bolt, i thought id mount it to the side so that the plate is more towards the center of the car.

i started off with cutting the hook part off


then i drilled 2 holes. i started out small then used the bit that came with the screw tap. everyhting is going smoothly at this point. i start the to tap the thread. i start with the top hole (the hook doesnt sit parallel nor perpendicular to the bumper. its slightly off). top hole it tapped, i try the screw and everyhitng is grand! i go to the bottom hole. i start, slowly, using ample amounts of the oil/lubricant. im about 85% thru when SNAP!! the freakin tapping bit snapped!!! it snapped right where at the edge of the tow hook, BARELY sticking out! crap! there goes the idea of driving witht aplate tomorrow!

so now im pissed, i dont have my bracket, i dotn have "ooooh aaaaah" pics for you and im stuck with a bit in my hole!! (<-----sounds oh so wrong!! hehe ). so now my otions are get another, bigger drill bit and tapping bit, drill out the broken tap, make other hole bigger and retap OR get a new hook and start all over again (i dont know how soft the tapping bit is or if it can be drilled out) OR say f-it and get the stillen OR say f-it and drill the bumper...
