Thanks to speedholic for the idea and photos.
I orginally had my Beltronic STi Driver RD unit low above the dash with an ugly coiled power cord running next to the monitor down to the ashtray 12v outlet. Saw this thread and realized that a hardwired RD with the smartcord mute button is key.
Paid $30 for a local car audio/vido/electronics shop to do the install with the hardwiring kit that came with the Beltronic. Now the RD unit is mounted high next to the rearview with the mute button within easy reach.

For those who hardwired your Passport to the cigarette lighter slot in the fuse box, how did you insert the power cord in the fuse?

My hardwire kit came with an insulated connector with a fuse blade. Am I supposed to just strip the power wire, wrap it around the fuse and push it back in? Do I need the insulated fuse blade?

I didn't want to mess around with running wires and stuff, so I just went with a cordless model. I really like it a lot too...

to anyone who mounts low on the glass, above the dash, have you had trouble getting signals from cops on overpasses? i got nailed this weekend, cop was on an overpass and the detector didn't even go off.

POP radar consists of a lightning-quick radar burst that can go from “off” to “on” detect you speed then back “off” again in less than one tenth of a second. Although it is still K band radar, it is so fast it is undetectable by most detectors.

Yup. Just wrap it around the blade and stick that sucker into place. Try to test-yank it to make sure it situated properly.

Good luck.

Got a cordless model so I don't have to worry about cords. Sure it is not as sensitive as a corded model, but I don't have to worry about a cord.

Thanks Speed. So if I wanted to hardwire my Garmin Nuvi 350, could I wrap the power cord around the other blade on the same cigarette lighter fuse as the Escort or would I have to use another fuse?

I'm not a big electrician, but I'd image that as long as the two devices don't draw more power than what the fuse can supply, you should be good.

I may be wrong though. Someone should chime in on that.
