Max speed limited on '07 Journey vs. Sport?
Hiya. Am about to pull the trigger on either a 6MT, or (in case the 6MT is rare enough to command a premium price... ) a Journey. But a question - on Nissan Maximas with the 3.5, there's always been a theory that the autos (e.g. non-sport, if you will) were speed limited, and the 6MT's weren't.
I noticed that the tires are the Journey are V-rated, for 149 mph; the top speed of the new G is supposed to be 158-ish, and the Sport has W-rated tires. So...the reason for the speed limiter on the Max was theoretically the speed rating on the tires. I don't know enough about Inifinitis yet to know if Nissan applies the same type of logic - anyone know?
And no, it's not that I'm planning to go 158 - but it's fun to know I could
Thanks!

Based upon my limited experience, manufacturers set the speed limiter at the speed rating of the OEM tires fitted to the particular model. So, since the Sport comes with summer tires instead of the all-season tires of the Journey, and the summer tires presumably have a higher speed rating, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sport has a higher speed limit. But, I don't know that for a fact.

I'm not sure on the '07 although I would assume it was the same as previous models. On the previous models the speed limiter was the same regardless of auto or manual. Anyone who has tried to dyno a manual in 5th gear will tell you that you will hit the speed limiter before you hit the rev limiter (I speak from experience)

Per Car and Driver review 10/06 of the 6MT, top speed is governer limited at 158 MPH. http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtest...ecs-page4.html

The C&D test cаr had W-rated tires, for a speed rating of 168 MPH, but Nissаn may have felt it wise to limit the speed to something a bit less ...
