How do those of you with black cars keep them looking good. That is, how/when do you polish/wax them?

Most black cars I see tend to have ugly swirl marks and other undesirable paint issues.

There are some great write ups in the DIY section.
Black def needs TLC to keep it swirl free & looking sweet.

...nice choice

Black sure looks sexy, but like the previous poster stated it definitely requires some extra TLC. Good luck.

I wash weekly and wax monthly with NXT (easy on easy off) with new MF towels.

use the softest microfiber towels you can find
wash car every week using soft sheepskin mitt and 2 bucket wash.
quick detail every other day
wax at least once a month
polish with porter cable 2-4 times a year.
pray it doesn't rain

had a 2003.5 6mt in black, I loved and hated it. Now I have a silver 05, so much easier to care for, but not as nice to look at. Now I wash twice a month, wax 3x a year, polish once a year. Save tons of time

ok bro, if this ur first black car and wish to keep it new and ever newer as time passes. YOU NEED A GARAGE. if u park 24/7 outside, your on an envitable path down to swirls avenue. zaino and all that other good stuff wont stop your car from being harrass by swirls and web marks. even if u dont drive thru machine wash, youll just gona self inflict those swirls onto the car everytime u wash. No matter how gentle and wimpy u wash your car. Those swirl free towels arnt really free of swirls. Get a garage or car canopy or better yet car cover. neighbors would think ur crazy on and off with the car cover though.

I agree...

I have a garage to store the G35 in.

Plus, I have an old car to drive in the event of snow or bad rain.

The G will only come out in nice weather!

that's a hella good deal esp with the pads. if you have a garage you probably wont have as many problems. a car cover can also add scratches, i personally know this is i see them everytime the car cover comes off. the mere stretching of the fabric over the car can do it to black. get the porter cable and polish it once a month and the black will stay cherry for along time.
