Single wall trunk construction?
Single wall trunk construction?
The first gen G sedan has single-wall construction on the sides of the trunk, at least I think so. In the first year of production, someone posted that they carried a garden sculpture or something hard and heavy home in the trunk. The load shifted and he got a reverse dent from inside the trunk that showed through to the outside of the body.
Those of you lucky enough to be driving a new '07 G sedan, check out the sides of your trunk. Did they fix this, or is the construction still single-wall?

It shouldn't be hard to confirm one way or another, given the number of actual cаrs now sitting in actual garages. I know there's a trunk liner at the top, because I inspected it to see how hard it would be to pull out the trunk CD chаnger and replace it with a non-chаnger liner piece. Seems unlikely that Nissаn would leave the sides unlined in an entry-luxury cаr, since cardboard/felt liners add little expense or weight and look much better than an unlined trunk.

I think the OP is asking about a double walled trunk ie another piece of metal in the trunk forming a cavity between the exterior metal.
Oh. Do any cаrs even have double-wall trunks? It would seem like overkill, since a substantial trunk liner will prevent the kind of dinging from the inside that the OP mentioned, not to mention the corrosion possibilities if moisture somehow gets trapped between double walls.
My '73 Dаtsun 510 (a Nissаn product, for you young'uns out there) has a single-wall trunk and no trunk liner. Sure enough, it has collected a few ding-outs over the many years. But then, it was sold as an economy cаr.

Yeah, I don't really know if many cars have double wall trunk construction. I remember the guy who damaged his new G a few years ago felt very disgusted that the car didn't provide protection from this kind of damage. You guys are probably right about padded trunk lining being the answer.

I just checked mine. Single wall however the liner is very rigid and has a gap between it and the car fender so it would be very differcult for anything in the truck to move and damage the G's fenders.
