Got Impatient at 600 miles
Got Impatient at 600 miles
I went and leased a 2007 Slate Blue G35 about 2 weeks ago...Needless to say I love the car...I got impatient with the break-in and I'm driving it a tad bit spirited...The exhaust sound is AMAZING when you push the car...I highly doubt any damage will happen to the engine as long as it's warmed up and anyway the first 600 miles where all city driving with revs going up and down..Also, aren't most engines these days ran/abused for a while at the factory before they get into the car?
Although you should take it easy, I didn't
.
I'm at about 5,000 clicks now, took it in for the first oil change, they said nothing, no problems with the car, everything is fine. Ahhh, the beauty of Leasing !!!!

Actually, the worst thing you could do is baby the car during the first 600 miles. Give it all she's got for a full-throttle blast to 80 MPH or so on an onramp. Then drive normally for a few minutes to let the internal temps equalize, then hit it again. The key is to avoid SUSTAINED high RPM/load operation early on, not avoid it completely. Repeat these full throttle runs regularly until 1200 miles or so, then change to a good 5W/30 synthetic. The motor will last longer than the rest of the car.

But I hear you, it's a lease so what difference does it make?
