Tech questions: creating a full PC setup with multiple monitors in the car

hello everybody,

I just got my 07 G too and I'm VERRRRY interested in increasing its capabilities.

Best case scenario: a set up with two screens (the stock and a new one) hooked up to an extra computer (running windows with a large HDD) but easily switchable to the infiniti system. Barring that, I'd want to replace the infiniti 30gb hdd with a much larger one for the music. How should I even go about this? I'm decently comfortable with computers and electronics, though not so much with cars. Can anyone recommend any sites, any resources? Has anyone done this? Is anyone thinking of doing something like this? If whoever helps me out is OK with it, i will definitely synthetize a guide detailing what I did at every step with pics, instructions, etc, to serve the community at large.

Thanks for your help!

I think getting a shuttle pc then the rca's may be key if you want audio from ur pc to be used...even video...I dont see why not. as far as upgrading the stock HDD I dont think you should go through the trouble if you are going to have your computer setup nicely...as far as the second monitor...where would you mount that again?

im very interested in this idea.

Actually the one in our infiniti's is only 9.5GB and from what I understand is from seagate.

The drive is a seagate 30GB, but 20.5GB are occupied by the navigation system leaving 9.5GB free for music.

Next person to go near a dealer, they need to ask the Service Department how challenging it is to rip out that hard drive - some of us have some ideas : )

(can you say easy Music Box size hack? I wonder if the system's configured to allow for a dynamic size of the Music Box...)

Ok, that makes sense. I kept seeing 9.5GB. Forgot about the Nav.

im very interested in this idea.

I want to mount it...around where the sunroof is (damn sunroof!) i'll probaby put it behind the sunroof, closer to the passengers since the front seats already have the stock LCD. I havent begun any work or research on it yet, I'm trying to get through alot of work tonight and tomorrow and then I'll have all of next week to tinker...

Any other help would be appreciated, stay tuned for an update.

yeah I would say thats a great idea...I got monitors 4 monitors in our guest room and manipulating the rca's do what you want (with a switch or two) I would say is the best way to do...

I guess you need to start out by thinking of what you want to accomplish...what functions do you want to be performing (if any since the danger factor comes into play) while driving and what you want to be able to accomplish while not driving...then go from there. manipulating the rca's with a box or switch seems like it would give you the most versatility - like if you think of other things down the road you will have a foundation (cant think of a better word right now) to use.
