However, let's look at the numbers.

2006 G35 Sedan 6mt Curb Weight: 3,512 (53/47%)
2006 G35 Coupe 6mt Curb Weight: 3,524 (54/46%)

Those numbers are from Infiniti's website. So it's a 12lb advantage to the Sedan.

What else affects a drag race? Traction?

The sedan is driven by 235/45R18 W-rated tires at the rear. The coupe is driven by 245/40R19 Y-rated tires at the rear. So that's a 20mm advantage in more rubber, and slightly better quality tires OEM for the coupe.

Traction is also dictated somewhat by suspension in a drag race. The sedan and the coupe have similar suspension arrangements.

Is there a difference in ride height that would make a difference one way or the other?

Do the sedan's smaller wheels help it's launch?

Anyway this seems like a driver's race to me, not sure if the 12lb weight advantage of the sedan is worth more or less than the better rubber of the coupe?
If we're going to be that technical, then it is a driver's race. All things equal, the lighter (skinnier) driver wins. LOL!

I'm 240 lbs so I guess that blows it for me. I'll need some more mods (oh damn!).

The coupe is also wider - This is accounted for in the drag coefficient.

the drag coefficient difference between the two does not translate to real measurable difference on the quarter mile. so drop that thought. Given the similar weight and gear. if the wheels are identical. it's simply a driver's race.

I have a 05 6MT coupe thats in the shop for warranty work. They gave me a brand new(100mi) 07 G35X(base) for a loaner. This thing is way quicker than my Coupe! The punch off the line is amazing! The shifts are lighting fast. It does slow down at the 100-110mph mark though. It does not handle as nice as the Coupe, but it is more "zippy"! When I looked at the engine, it has twin throttle bodies? When did that start? I know the sedan AT has a high stall in the converter, gets in the torque band quicker and paired with softer suspension for traction equals better 60ft times which equals quicker et's. I think the Coupe is geared to low(high?). Any one put the 3.90 gears in thier coupe???

yeah, my 07 Sedan is MUCH quicker than my 05 coupe was. I was SHOCKED!

I knew it would be a little more powerful with the 26 extra horses, but it really surprised me!

Saying that the 08 coupe should break into low 13's.

And if you wanna talk about the 07 sedan vs the 06 coupe, I believe it's a drivers race.
You have the wrong info, stereotype.

I know as a fact that the 06 Coupe 6MT and 06 Sedan 6MT have the same exact acceleration.

From what I understand, though, the 06 Coupe 6MT has much better handling than any of the 06 Sedans (probably due to the Sport-Tuned Suspension). But don't take my word for it; im not completely sure.

The 07 Sedan, whether auto or 6mt, should be faster than an 06 Coupe 6MT. Its been proven to put down atleast 265 whp and 235 whp with a more ideal power curve; much better numbers compared to rev-up. It has also done the 1/4 mile as quick as 13.7 @ 103 mph (according to a member here) and 13.9 @ 103 mph from Car and Driver.

So, don't expect the 08 Coupe to be faster than the 07/08 Sedan unless it receives the highly anticipated 3.7 liter engine as an option.

The 07s have more hp, torque, rev higher faster, have lower gearing (differential and first few gears) and more efficient transmission technology, which may be why they feel and are faster off the line.

Beyond that, assorted spoilers, wheels and tires, spring kits and, on this board, the best zaino jobs known to man, explain the rest of the performance difference.

In my professional guess yes-- the 5at seemed to have the same?

all i know is that the 07 sedan is the s*** and any one that hasn't driven it doesn't know how bad *** it is, and also how much faster it is all around, off the line and top end, this car is a whole lot better than any 03-07 sedans, and coupes, now for the coupe that is coming out i thought it was supposed to be competing with the upcoming IS-F and the 335i coupe so i am expecting it to be a whole lot faster than the sedan but then again who knows, they might detune it on purpose just so we can spend more money on aftermarket parts, i mean ford does it there shelby suck (0-60 5.0sec,qt mile in 13.6) but who knows lol. forgot the magazine i got those numbers from just in case some what wants to argue that fact

Even if the 08 coupe gets the 3.7L motor, I doubt if it would be "much" faster as nchima is claiming. Afterall, 0.2L in displacement is only going to yield maybe 20 to 30 hp at most. 30 hp will not make a high 13 sec 1/4 mile car into a low 13 sec 1/4 mile car.

If Infiniti did other things like add direct injection as well as bumping displacement up to 3.7L, then we may see 350+ hp and possibly mid to low 13s in the 1/4 mile.

Are you talking about the Shelby GT or the Shelby GT500... the Shelby GT is just a regular Mustang GT, with appearance, suspension mods and intake/exhaust and does the 1/4 mile in around 13.6...

The new sedan is considerably faster than the first generation sedan or coupe. Period.

The magazine "muscle mustangs and fast fords" ran a 12.3 quarter mile with a stock GT500. I know this because I am just coming out of the mustang world.
