I didn't know they were that quick

I just happened to read a review of the '07 G35 sedan in the October issue of Car and Driver. C&D got a 5.2 in 0/60 and 13.9 in the 1/4 on a car with only 200 miles on the odometer. This car has a real chance to get into the 4s in 0/60 and mid 13s in the 1/4 after the engine is broken-in. Hopefully the '08 coupe will be even faster.

coupe should be much faster than the sedan.

Can't wait to see some quarter mile times.

I doubt after the break in period there will be a .3+ second drop in 0-60 times..

I'm talking about the 07 sedan compared to the 08 coupe.

Saying that the 08 coupe should break into low 13's.

And if you wanna talk about the 07 sedan vs the 06 coupe, I believe it's a drivers race.

In case you didn't know, 2005-06 G35 sedans are faster than the coupes. The sedans are lighter with the same engine and transmission, do the math. Since 07 G35 sedan is significantly faster than the 06, it will beat the 06 and 07 G35 coupe. It won't be a drivers race as equal drivers will give 07 G35 sedan the win everytime.

I'm not sure this is the case.. everyone says it, well, sedan owners mostly, but it seems to be a popular opinion. In my experience the coupe that I own feels faster than several sedan's I've driven. However, my coupe is 6mt and the sedans I drove were 5AT -- so that might make sense.

However, let's look at the numbers.

2006 G35 Sedan 6mt Curb Weight: 3,512 (53/47%)
2006 G35 Coupe 6mt Curb Weight: 3,524 (54/46%)

Those numbers are from Infiniti's website. So it's a 12lb advantage to the Sedan.

What else affects a drag race? Traction?

The sedan is driven by 235/45R18 W-rated tires at the rear. The coupe is driven by 245/40R19 Y-rated tires at the rear. So that's a 20mm advantage in more rubber, and slightly better quality tires OEM for the coupe.

Traction is also dictated somewhat by suspension in a drag race. The sedan and the coupe have similar suspension arrangements.

Is there a difference in ride height that would make a difference one way or the other?

Do the sedan's smaller wheels help it's launch?

Anyway this seems like a driver's race to me, not sure if the 12lb weight advantage of the sedan is worth more or less than the better rubber of the coupe?

I bet the weight difference is negated by the better launch you'd get with the coupe's fatter tires.

The sedan also has a lower coefficient of drag.

The sedan is lighter thing came because the earlier years were a lot lighter (~150lbs). Now they are about the same.
