New G Model.

I believe that the new G coupe will come in two trims. The fact that Infiniti has dropped "35" from their G moniker makes me believe that there is more than one trim being developed for this new G coupe. The first trim will be the standard VQ with between 306-330 hp. The second will have a V8 to compete with the M3, RS4, and IS-F. This V8 will then make it into the G sedan, eventually. Considering that Infiniti is following the BMW model so far, I wouldn't be surprised that a new performance line will grow out creating a high performance models of their strongest selling vehicle.

The availability of a vastly different powertrain (V8) obviously is being done within the M and the FX lineup now. So it's possible that could happen if the platform of the new Coupe can accomodate it. Somehow though I sense a reluctance to get into a real HP war given the exact matching of the IS with the new sedan. I hope I'm wrong. A new performance line would be a progressive move to strengthen the Infiniti image and cachet, and likely stimulate more interest in the brand.

Well I have heard well informed rumors of a 08/09 FX 50R, so I would think the R treatment might be the same as the BMW M treatment, and Infiniti will decimate Lexus in a performance battle any day of the week.

I can't imagine them squeezing a V8 into the G35 Sedan. They can't find room for a glove box now or more than a 5"x5" compartment in the center console.
Seriously. Find room for a a glove compartment! Drop the back AC vents in the rear of the center console and give us more than a 5" x 5" storage compartment.
Next, flair the fenders out (M series type flare) on the Sedan to free up some space in the trunk and some inches under the hood for a larger engine/turbo's.

Sure you're driving the right car?
