Better deal if order?
Better deal if order?
I noticed that alot of guys on the forum ordered their G35 for delivery in a few months. I was just wondering if you were able to get a better deal that way, or was it that you wanted a specific package that the dealer did not have.
From my limited experience, you get a better deal if you buy something that the dealer has in his inventory. For example, my dealer tried to bait and switch with me after we had agreed on a model and a price. He wanted to give me the same discount on another car he wanted to unload.

I definitely agree with hungadin. I ordered mine back in the summer because I wanted to make sure that I got exactly what I wanted. If you are paying that much for a car, you may as well have it exactly the way you want it and not have to sacrifice on color choice and packages.

It cost the dealers money (interest) each day a car sits on their lot. So it is in their best interest to move cars on the lot as quickly as possible.

When I bought my car...
I decided exactly which color combination, model, and option packages I wanted. I requested quotes for that specific model and noted that I didn't care whether it was a factory order or from dealer stock, but that there was no flexibility in any of the vehicle specs.
I ended up waiting about 4 weeks for the vehicle to arrive. The exact vehicle I wanted was found to exist and be on its way to CA, and my dealer was ultimately able to have it diverted to IL.
I agree with other posters...if you are spending tens of thousands of dollars on something, why not get precisely what you want?

For those that aren't taking deliver until Feb/March, wouldn't you think that by simply waiting until then, there would be greater supply and you would have better negotating power to buy it then?

It all depends on how flexible your needs are .... if you are willing to compromise on what you want (in terms of color, packages etc) AND are also willing to wait till Feb/Mar you can definitely get a better deal by seeing what the dealer has in stock around that time.
Most others that are waiting for a Feb/Mar delivery are probably waiting after ordering the exact car they want.

Sometimes this takes more time but is well worth my wait.
This way the new car is guaranteed new on its arrival, without any possibility of miles, fingerprints, abuse, excessive jockeying, or any other unwanted activity.
but that's me........ and whether there's any advantage to this way, I don't know. But what I'm not prepared to do is take any chances, tho.....
C.
Kewltea, you should be able to negotiate a slightly better deal on 'in stock' cars, since they're already being paid for by the dealer every day they're on his lot.
