Question XM radio question?

I got a new G with the premium package but without XM.
I understand that they all come pre-wired for XM.
Do you know If you have to have the dealer install the Antenna or can you go to a stereo installer like Al & Eds or Circuit City?
(The dealer wants around $750 to have it hooked up. )
Thanks

I'm sure many could argue with you. Thats a pretty bold / general statement. Some people may do alot of city to city travel where xm ciruis radio really is awesome. I wasn't planning to get in on my 05, but it was already on the one that I was going to buy. I planned on just canceling when the first 3 free months were up, but I really got hooked. There really is always something on when you have xm or sirius. Some may like Howard (sirus) or opie and anthony (xm). I guess my point is, its obivous he wants to get it.

I would be intrested in knowing the answer though. Knowing the answer may help me decide when my lease ends and I buy my 08

My question was not who likes XM or Sirius, but you are entitled to your opinion.
Does anyone know the answer?

IMO XM Radio rocks!! I can't even listen to FM radio anymore with all the garbage and commercials. Unbelievable selection of tunes with no commercials. Plus, you can listen on-line any time.

If you don't want to pay big bucks to get XM, do what I did and get one of the Roady2 boxes and just install it inside the car. Real easy to do.

Just my opinion.

I have both XM and Sirius....both are head and shoulders above FM, and Sirius is much better than XM.

I believe the same, but that XM is much better than Sirius. But that is due to what kinds of music I listen to. XM has a channel that I really like, and Sirius doesn't have an answer for it. And we still aren't answering the original poster's question

According to my manuel, the xm antenna is under the dash. This was not where I expected it to be. I figured that it was part of the antenna package on the roof of the car along with the GPS antenna. If the car is prewired, maybe the antenna is already there.

I don't have any experience with satellite radio and wonder how well it works. Where I live radio reception isn't a problem, but when travelling I frequently go through areas with little or no reception. Is this the main advantage of satellite radio, the ability to pick-up stations anywhere?

No, just one of the advantages. Others are:

- a hundred + music channels and every channel is specific, also sports only like the ESPN channel and such, CNN channel, etc.
- non commercialized music stations (at least the ones I listen to on XM, no commercials at all)
- and yes, being able to drive 1000 miles and listen to the same station
- very little of a cackling DJ

main advantages to me are the no commercials and a couple of channels that suite my niche music tastes....I don't even listen to CD's in the car anymore as the 2 stations I listen to, well I'm that happy with them...YMMV

The G has been prewired since at least 2004, I had it installed in my '05 last Christmas, at the the dealer, using the factory unit and antennae, I think some here have done the install themselves and saved $$$, I got a deal on mine. I bet you could have it installed at an aftermarket dealer.
