Document Fee

How much was your document fee? The dealer I talked to says they charge something like $400 which is a bit extreme.

I actually switched dealers because the first one I was dealing with tried to charge me a $270 doc fee (on top of title/registration fees). So when I went to another dealer, I told them straight up...beat the first dealers deal by a bit ($100) and don't charge me any BS fees and the sale's yours. So they did....and I bought the car from them. The doc fees are BS and don't let a dealer impose them on you. The only fees I paid in addition to taxes were for title/registration (required by the DMV).

Mine was $250 CDN, unfortunately, I don't have any other dealership to haggle with.

Doc fees = BS. It's just extra profit for the dealer.

$150, I think? No way you should pay $400, tell them to cut it down or you walk...I doubt they will stick on it.

I didn't even know about doc fees. It's only $45 according to my contract. Not too bad, right?

If by Document fees you mean the dealer paperwork fee, my dealer was $599.

Of course I negotiated the out the door price up front, so they reduced the sales price so their "preprinted form" would come up to the negotiated price. Wouldn't you know that when I went to write the check, the fee mysteriously reappeared until I threatened to walk out.

Now there is usually a doc/stamp fee on a loan, but I didn't have a loan. In FL, the doc stamp on a $30k loan would be around $100.

Did you get yours from Infiniti of Serramonte by any chance? Mine was $45 as well. Great buying experience there!

California law limits the fee to $45. A lot of other states do not have a set limit.

Yup! I had Claudio. I was supposed to get my car from Oakland (even better experience), but Serramonte had the exact car I wanted, and it even came early. So I abandoned my order and took delivery with Claudio. He, Scott, and Dana are awesome.

They are a good dealer. I think their small size has something to do with it. In 2004, I attempted buying my FX35 there, but had to go elsewhere (Peninsula Infiniti) because they just couldn't get the car I wanted.
