how do i get new license plate?

i bought my car about 2.5 weeks ago. now how do i get a new plate? do i need to go to dmv? or can i do it online? is it expensive?

Your dealer would have taken care of it and you should get your plates in mail in about a month.

well i dont think they did... they said to go to the dmv or somtin...

Really? You might check again, if so it's the first time I've ever heard of a dealer doing that. Usually they do it automatically, title the car for you, and send you your plates when the arrive.

i jsut called and they said that i need to go and do it myself and that i would get a credit for my old tag towards a new one... how does this work?

50 different states, 50 different set of rules. Try looking for info at www.state.xx.us (replace xx with the two letter abbreviation for your state).
