Question Auto headlights come on pulling into garage

I find that when I pull into my garage, (or start the car while in the garage), it is often dim enough that it triggers the auto headlights to come on. I've set the auto headlight sensitivity all the way down towards the minus sign, and it still does it.

I remember reading in the manual that it was bad (or not recommended) for these types of HID headlights to have frequent on/off cycles, as this could shorten their lifespan. I've never had headlights like this before, (but I sure do love these at night!). Should I really be worried about this? They are only on for like a second before I am pulled in and shut the car off. Any suggestions to avoid this? I know I could turn the headlamp switch from auto, but then that sort of defeats the purpose of auto headlights. I like having it on auto so they come on at dusk before I might otherwise notice and turn them on myself.

I sure wish Infiniti had built in like a 5 or 10 second delay before the lights would come on...

Good question, I noticed that happened to me in the parking garage this morning at the office. Although I did notice there was a small delay.

I dont know about the life span. But on my 04 VW the lights come on EVERYTIME you unlock the truck. Never had a problem yet. All that flashing does not take place on the infiniti and im sure there quality is better then my VW's. I wouldnt worry about them clicking on and off all the time. Thats there job.

You know, now that you mention it I have never seen a vehicle with HID's "winking" coming at me, even if it does shorten the life a little bit, they must last longer then conventional halogen bulbs.

I have the same problem when I pull into my garage. Maybe I need to get a brighter bulb for my garage door opener to prevent this issue...

My Maxima has Xenons, and has flipped the lights on at least twice a day in the garage for the past three years - no hint of any problems so far.

i keep my light swith on "parking lights only" and when i need headlights, i go to "manual headlights". i never go to auto or completely off. when i park and shut off the car after i've been using my headlamps, i switch it over to parking lamps and leave the car like that to avoid leaving my headlights on. that was probably pretty confusing. my parking lights are my "off switch" so to speak.
