Owners manual - recommended octane

Two different recommneded values are mentioned in the manual - which one is correct?

- is it 91 AKI / RON 96 ( per page 9-2 of the manual) ? , or
- is it 93 AKI / RON 98 (per page 9-3 of the manual) ?

The above is different than 87 AKI (RON 91) which the manual says could be used if premium is not available.

Ref:

Pg 9-2 ( PDF page 378) says :
Unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI (RON 96)

Pg 9-3 (PDF page 379 ) says :
INFINITI recommends the use of unleaded premium gasoline with an octane rating of at least 93 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research octane number 98).

If unleaded premium gasoline is not available, you may use unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI number (Research octane number 91), but you may notice a decrease in performance.

The way I interpret it is: 91 is a minimum recommendation, but _ideal_ recommendation is 93. 87 is only if you can't get 91 or 93. Personally, I use 93. Some Sunoco stations have 94, not sure if that would make any difference at all (probably not).

Hmmm. Most the station around me are PetroCanada and they have :

Regular 87 octane RegularClean
Mid-grade 89 octane PlusClean
Premium 91 octane SuperClean

So looks at best I would not meet the ideal recommended octaioe of 93.

I've used Petro-Canada's Premium (91 octane) in all my Infinitis including my M45 and they have all run like a top without a hint of ping.....

Check with the dealer but I'd bet that the book's reference to 93 octane is a mistake.

Another way to interpret this is: 91 applies to Canada, and 93 applies to U.S. Seems folks from Canada generally have 91 and not 93, while in the U.S., it's generally 93 and not 91.

I hadn't thought of that, Randman......that's quite possible.

tho they could have been more explicit with locations........

Good thought.

Everywhere around where I live is not just generally 91, it is only 91, I didn't even know 93 existed. I live in California tho, so, meh...

Inside you gas door.....read!

We haven't had anything over 93 octaine for years and now we don't even
have that. All we can get is 91 octaine and how knows how long that will
last. But we do have an air quality problem, something we have to live with!
