Painting the Chrome Trunk Lip

I'm planning on buying the 2007 g35x. The designs freaken hot but I'm not feeling the chrome trunk lip. Thinking of painting the chrome lip with body paint so it will look like there is no chrome lip. you think its possible to paint the chrome lip with body color paint? will it look retarded?

I honestly think the chrome lip will grow on you. At first I was thinking of doing the same thing, now I have actually come to appreciate the contrast it gives to the trunk. Just my opinion.

I agree with Christian, I disliked the chrome lip at first and had plans of painting it body colour as you do. Once I got the car it grew on me, it probably is because it does not stand out on the light silver car. I do think it would look good painted body colour though, especially if you were going to go with the spoiler.

Make me 3rd. I thought it was tacky at first, but now I love it....only thing I don't love is the fingerprints...lol.

Same here. Most people -- myself included initially -- don't realize that you can close the trunk lid by reaching the inside handle. It's rather difficult to reach up for the chrome lip to close the lid, even though I'm 5'11". So now, I wait until my passengers are done, and I close the trunk lid myself. They think I'm being nice. I'm just being ****.

Thanks for your comments. I was thinking of painting the chrome part with body color and put a bmw M3 lip spoiler on top of it. The chrome lip does stand out on black g35. Not sure about white or silver

You know if you put a BMW part on the car it will devalue it by 60% and we'll have to throw you off the G35 Forum.

What handle??? I always reach up and put my fingers on the taillight to avoid fingerprints. Never noticed any handle inside. Are you talking about the emergency trunk release thing?

No, there is a handle on the inside of the trunk lid that is used to close the trunk. The G35 has always had this.

photoshop it and it becomes obvious the chrome helps keep the rear end from looking as ugly as a BMW 3 series

Go open your trunk and look on the right side of the inside of the trunk lid. You'll see it.
