No it will not unlock the door automatically. You will not need the key to start the car. It's only needed if it ever ran out of battery, you can still unlock your car. Strange thread btw.

To unlock the doors you just push the button on either one of the front door handles. The key is to unlock the drivers side door if the batter dies in your fob. It isn't used to start the car, again if the batter is dead you insert the whole fob into the dash and start the car with the push button.

i always thought the key would be in a card shape that fits in your wallet.. some other auto company makes it like that.. just dont remember which one..

is there a slot where you can place the key inside the car?

The car does not lock automatically if you walk away, you have to lock it with the door button or the fob.

If you leave it running and walk away with the fob someone else can drive it away - exactly the same as if you leave
any other car running and walk away. The only difference is if they shut it off or stall it, they can't start it again.

Off topic question but one quirk I have is I lock my doors when I'm driving and after I park the car to get out I have to press the unlock door button to open the door(s). Is it possible to have the doors unlock by pulling on the door handle?

Not likely. I always thought it was a required feature to have a mechanical connection between the door handle and the lock so you can get out in an emergency even if you're a hysterical mess.

As for the credit card type key I think that the newer Mazda MX-5 has a credit card style smart key. The one that comes with the 03-06 Infiniti cars is just a think mechanical key to keep with you incase you lock yourself out.
