Exposing faults- The ongoing drive

So far, what I had done to the car is the following:

-15% tint on rear windows
-hard "clear coat" clear bra on hood and fenders
-softer 3m bra on front bumper
-3m on door edges and on top of the rear bumper of trunk opening
-Fuel filler door done with a single sheet of 3m
-Headlights protected with a single sheet of 3m

I've racked up about 210 kms' on the car so far (131 miles approx) and I've used up about 1/2 of the tank.

Based on a 20 US Gal tank (75 liter tank) I've used up roughly 10 gal of fuel to travel 131 miles (37.5 liters for 210 kms) which works out to about 13 MPG (well, I can't do the math for L/100kms but I think it's about 18.75?)

Mixed 80% highway, 10% high traffic, and approx 10% booting around (I think I lasted about 50 kms before I started driving a little ah... spirited)

The past week, it's been around -15 to -5 blowing winds. Here are a few things that have come to light:

-I replicated ChristianN's problem about the Infiniti "boot screen" not going away when starting the car. shift to "P" then back to "D" went away. Something to mention for the first service.

-Trigger on the Auto shift is sticky (no auto jokes please ) press and release of the trigger several times, problem still exists. Something to mention for the first service.

-Shift boot fabric seems a little stretched, no known fixes at this point, could be a problem in the future?

-Lid for the ashtray sticks halfway and will not work itself loose. After cycling the flap about 30 times, problem still exists. Something to mention for the first service.

-HORRIBLE rattle on the passenger side I tracked down to the passenger seat belt was not retracted up to it's normal resting position and banging on the plastic trim <whew>

-Spikey hair impales itself in the roof fabric. Solved the problem with a massive buzz.

-The "wheat" colored pillars and roof do not mesh well with the "graphite" interior but the texture is lovely.

-Sunroof accordian things have not popped off, but who the heck uses the sunroof in the winter?

-Compact flash card- Formatted card FAT32, dumped MP3's onto it. Insert card and attempt to access card with the voice command, nothing. Cycling "source" button, nothing. Access menu on dash, nothing. Reseat card, voice command works, dash works, source works. Was not able to reproduce problem, probably not worth mentioning unless it manifests itself again.

-Floor pivoting gas pedal is very unusual and highly sensitive. Seems to have a "two stage" from a stand still, seems to accelerate slowly then pickup sharply. I've been able to adapt to the floor pivot but the gas still has a "two stage" feel to it. Many Civic's think I am racing with them when I'm just trying to get under way.

-Love the feel of the interior switches, Dash menu navigation truly was well thought out, able to master it in a few minutes.

-Seat warmers are lukewarm atbest. Something to mention at the first service.

-Adaptive headlights are really cool.

-Rear camera is really cool

If anyone knows of quick fixes for my niggly little problems, please feel free to let me know

Also, if anyone else has interesting little things that come up, post them here and your fix if you had any. Unless a database of this sort of thing exists already?, in which case, please point me in the right direction

This adjusted as the car breaks in and you really get used to and learn to appreciate the responsiveness

I agree with the seat heaters, they are pathetic.

A few of my complaints include the cruise control when going down hill, it brakes quite hard when it happens to maintain speed, I would MUCH prefer a more gradual engine brake so it doesn't jerk the whole car. Also the drivers side wiper, what ever engineer came up with the angle it stops at shouldn't have a job - pay attention to the angle the wiper stops in relation to the a-pillar.

With that said, no car is perfect and over all I like this car it just has a bunch of little problems I can't believe they didn't fix prior to production.

I think you'll find it is just too early to start anayzing a new car's fuel economy half way through the first tank. Give the car a few tanks to learn how you drive and to break in and I think you'll find your gas milage getting much better. As for the "2 stage gas pedal" the drive by wire system needs to learn how you drive and to a certain extent I found you just get used to it. Enjoy your ride.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

I couldn't help but to start picking at the numbers, eheheh.

Problem with the car learning my driving habits is that I do a bit of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde when my wife is with me and not

I didn't see anywhere else that had info like this, thought I'd start one up.

ChristianN, does your X still have the boot screen problem? did anyone fix it?.

+1! Whenever I have my hair even mildly fluffed up, it hits the roof. I guess I can always lower the seat's height level.

The problem that mine has is different and sporadic, my screen doesn't even turn on sometimes and it kind of worries me. It hasn't happened in over a week, so I haven't really done anything about it.

Thanks for the reply, I'd forgotten that your problem was the screen not coming up. That's very interesting.

I wonder if it's cold weather related?.

I had the same passenger-side rattle that ended up being the seatbelt.

I dont like the floor pivot gas pedal at all. I cant fault the car for having it since I went on two test drives and knew about it (as opposed to something in the car breaking) - I just dont happen to like it. I've gotten used to it over 1500 miles, just doesnt happen to be my thing.

Age: 460 kms = 285.830 748 429 miles

Now, granted, I'm only about halfway reading through the manual between my studying the voice commands and the NAV manual, but I've uncovered a few other quirks, if anyone can chime in and help me, please do

I have a Samsung X820, just learned the bluetooth function in the car and can use it without looking like a klutz.

WHY, O WHY, does the voice dialing cut off at 6 characters?!?!

"Phone dial, 497-5429"

"Dialing phone... 4.9.7...5.4.2........Please continue"

"NINE!"

ARGH, why?!

Also, I have noticed an odd thing and was wondering if any other '07 G owners have noticed this as well.

With the adaptive headlights, the passenger side will always respond to the right turn of the wheel, however, I've noticed that my driver side headlight only works some of the time.

Is the Adaptive lighting system speed sensitive on the drivers side?.

And Finally, sometimes when I shut the car off, it does this infernal beeping. As if I've left the key in the ignition, but... well... there is no key in the ignition. I vacate the vehicle as per usual but after I close and lock the door, I can't tell if it's still beeping

>> I know the degree of turn is different for the driver's side - speed sensitive would be a good idea, since you're most likely to be driving fast on a freeway - where you won't want to shine into oncoming traffic.

>> Make sure your spare key isn't in the owner's zippered bag!!

When I got my G35, the voice recognition would work perfectly for navigation, radio tuning, CD play, etc. but would always bomb on PHONE DIAL. In the best case, it would truncate a digit or two, but most often it would come up with a phone number that had nothing to do with what I spoke. It turned out to be a faulty "Bluetooth module" which was ordered, but is currently back-ordered.

Nobody in the service dept. could get the PHONE DIAL command to work properly either. It worked 100% of the time for me in the M35 loaner I had while the diagnostics were being done on my car.

I have the same problem with phone numbers being truncated. It's not a 6-digit limitation though, because I tried saying the last number twice and then it gets it (Twice).. So, I can get it to accept 8 digits or 6 digits, but not 7 digits. Fortunately, I've got voice tags for my most dialed numbers, so it's not as frequent an irritation now.

I've also had it start beeping at me when I turn the car off. I think I was opening the door right as I was turning off the car. It doesn't happen often enough for me to test that hypothesis though and I haven't made any particular effort to try to recreate it.
