it bothers me because when people hear it they are like WTF...you need to get your transmission checked

Odd - I haven't heard this noise, and have made lots of shifts above 4k (trust me ) with the windows open etc.

Try it with windows up and when the motor is first warmed up (not cold).

Don't misunderstand: I've done it windows up, windows down, 4k+ rpms, redline rpms etc. - I doubt I've missed any possible scenario, other than I won't do stuff like this when the engine is cold.

Haven't heard the noise.

valve blowoff sound

Confirmed. I get that sound too on my 07 G35S, auto. Its almost like pressure from the cylinders has to be discharged between shifts. Another description of the sound would be like air brakes on a truck...but to a lesser degree.

I think is some hydraulic or pressure discharge between shifts...but can't confirm.

It only happens to me when it shifts smoothly. When I am driving aggressively, and the shifts are firm, it does not make the sound. This is why I think it may be the torque convertor relieving pressure.

EXACT same thing happening here on my Journey Auto. I worry about it a bit but I'm wondering if it is normal since now alot of folks have this issue.

I heard it for the first time yesterday, if it wasn't for this thread I would have worried about it it does sound a bit like a blowoff/recirculation valve.

Auto transmissions use an accumulator valve in the transmission to regulate the shifts. These valves are located in the valve body of the transmission. Depending on line pressure which determines the speed/impact of the shift, these valves re-direct pressure thru various orifices within the valve body to relieve pressure. This is probably what is making the noises we are hearing.
It seems to be normal for this tranny, louder than most.. but seems to be working as designed.

We used to pull these valves on some of the GM trannies. The shifts then become real fast and hard..

This is just an educated guess as I don't have any actual experience with the G tranny.. The noise occurs just at the time these valves are doing their thing...

I get the same noise. I don't describe it as a Blow out valve. It does sound similar to it. I think it has to do with the redesigned variable intake and this motor comes with exhaust-valve timing. I just love this car more and more as I drive it.

Ok guys I have this sound too. I want everyone to listen closely next time. It seems the noise is coming from the exhaust, somewhere between the cat and the exhuast tip and probably closer to the exhuast tip. Sounds a lot like a blow off valve...

Since many of us are getting this sound, I'm thinking it's just part of the car, but I could see how people would ask wtf is that sound, cause it doesn't sound normal.

I think I'll wait until my oil change to ask the dealer about it, but if anyone already has asked the dealer, what did they tell you?

Has anyone had this issue and had it go away or fixed it ?
