Spring Installation Procedure/How-to?

Hey guys,

This may have already been posted, but I am in a pinch for time, so a new thread for now. Please feel free to redirect me.

At any rate, just got a quote of nearly $600 to put my H&R Springs, slap the mounted and balanced wheels on, and alignment from the local Nissan Dealership. This seems outrageous to me. So...

1.) how much should it cost?
2.) how hard is it to do yourself?
3.) is there a how-to write up of any kind?
4.) any additional info would be GREAT!

Thanks!

Sean

i paid $250 to have coilovers installed in my a4 and that was a BITCH to put on. i honestly dont think its that hard. you should be able to diy (i took the c/o's off myself) if you have the right tools. im also pretty sure it should be like any other car.

Yeah? I am just not much into paying $600. I am going to try calling some other places, but I kinda felt kicked in the groin with that estimate....

If you know how to use a tools , It is very easy to change your spring on a 07 sedan , The rear will take you about 10 minutes . The front will probably take 1.5 hours . Its not worth paying 600.00 .

On a side note... has anyone heard that H&R has stopped shipping the springs and are reworking their design? The distributor I ordered from said he was told today by the manufacturer that they are working out some bugs in them and should be producing them again soon... just curious if anyone else had heard this?!?! Or, if you think the dealer is just yanking my chain. He was trying to talk me into waiting on the Eibachs.

You say the rear will only take 10 minutes, is not a conventional "coil over"? I havent looked but how is it such a quick job?

Yeah, any explanations on how to do it? I guess I should wait to hear from the dealer tomorrow about whether or not I will even be getting the springs, I might end up holding off on them...

10 minutes maybe an under-estimate for the rears. I did my coil-overs myself with help from some GREAT write-ups I found on this forum by Gsedan35. The rears will take you about 15 minutes each side if you've done it before, but for the first time 30 minutes per side is a more realistic time estimate

Fronts are kind of a pain and an extra set of hands (although not necessary) will help out a lot.

The tech at Eibach did all four corners AND 4 wheel align on my car in about 4 hours and he wasn't even rushing. The key is having the right tools (floor lift!) to make the job easy. I've done tranmissions, suspensions, and exhausts on my back in my younger days. Once is enough for the experience .

I've talked to a couple of shops in So Cal. For around $600-$700, you should be able to get the springs, installation, AND the 4 wheel align.

Which places have you talked to? Have you had previous cars worked on by them? I'm looking for a reliable shop in socal to do my car.

Hmm...interesting. What kind of 'bugs' are they working out of these new springs...? From what I've heard elsewhere in this forum, the new 07 springs are just the older pre-07 springs w/ a new part number. Do all of the previous springs have 'bugs' too...?

No problems whatsoever on my set.(knocking on wood).

Thanks Dakkerz!!

Hikos- I have no idea. The dealer is supposed to be calling me back today about the availability of the springs. I will try and see if he knows any more about what is going on. At the same time, its a distributor, he could be blowing me smoke... or he just may not be too well informed to what is going on.

Thanks guys!

Wheel Warehouse in Anaheim. They are good, and you get what you pay for so they are a little pricey.

Dick Cash Alignment in Glendale was very good, but they've merged with Big-O tires.

Both of these places are on the internet.

did mine over the course of the morning. Rears took about 45min for both sides. put the rear on jackstands and remove wheels. then you just take the one bolt/nut off of the spring banjo where it meets the axle housing.....make sure the jack is underneath it and just lower it down to uncompress it and remove. install in reverse order.

front-put the front on jack stands and remove wheels. loosen and remove the lower 19mm nut thats on the lower strut bolt. remove 3 bolts on the side black retaining bracket on the lower control arm and remove. remove abs wires, remove 12mm nut holding brake hose block onto the strut. remove top 3 12mm nuts in engine bay......drop it out and have a shop change the strut springs or you can with spring compressors and an impact gun.

install in reverse directions. good luck, its not to bad.

dont pay that much for them to do it, they are just trying to get some money out of you because of what you drive. i bet they only charge 125 to the next guy in a honda hatch or nissan sentra. lol

gap is now 1 finger in both front and back. springs work wonderfully.
