BMW may not be written as large as I N F I N I T I but it is on there:

Infiniti is only written on the trunk, BMW is written everywhere.

That's part of their emblem. If the name "INFINITI" was part of the Mt. Fuji emblem it would have been a different story.

Think about the word though, I N F I N I T I is spaced out which follows the same idea of being boundless and limitless that was set out in their first zen like advertising campaign. If they wrote Infiniti real small on the Mount Fuji it just wouldn't make any sense. Also they are striving to have a symbol that is just as strong as the name, without words. It's kind of like the idea Prince had when he was on crack that he can live forever as a symbol. I bet if you took the letters BMW off of their logo and put it in front of a focus group it wouldn't score well in terms of brand recognition on its own (outside of a group of automotive entusiasts). Another issue that Infiniti faces that's unique to the Japanese manufacturers is their efforts to gain recognition as a luxury brand when the world views Japanese cars as having an image of reliability at an affordable price. This is a grand idea which I think deserves a grand presentation.

I think all of the cars that are debadged are missing "something". Why pay $50K + (CAN), and then remove the brand. You're (partially) paying or the brand, and what the brand represents (performance + luxury + reliability). Branding is everything. I think the car looks "cheap" IMO w/out it. There are other ways of making your car look unique other than taking the emblem off.

To each their own I guess.

Pretty much that's what I was thinking as well.

Well, the "Mt Fuji" that everyone calls it is really the symbol for infinity (sort of an 8 laying on its side) slightly altered and stylized with a perpendicular road surface fading to the vanishing point.

Good point, but I still think that a brand that believes in market share and exposure, should be confident enough to rely on its main symbol (mt. fuji emblem), rather than spelling its name all over a trunk. JMO.

I am planning on removing the letters on the trunk lid. Any tips on how to do this. I have never de-badged before.
Thanks in advance!

I would use a heat gun/hair dryer and dental floss

If you're in warmer climates, you probably won't need to heat it.

Use wax or goo gone to remove the glue residue.

yesterday in 40 degree weather I took some dental floss to the letters and off they came. Real quick.

Heat gun may make it a little easier to get rid of the gunk below, but I just used my nails. About 45 minutes later, with a little goo gone, now it looks a lot better.

To each their own, but I don't care if someone knows what kind of car I drive. If anything, the car speaks for itself and people will want to find out. I bought the car for what it is, not for what other people think of it.
