Navigation Day/Night Setting

How come the day/night setting is manual? Is it possible to make it so it automatically changes the display setting to day when its daylight and to night when its evening?

Mine's automatic. I think you need to adjust the brighness to the middle where at the left side of the brightness bar shows a little gray auto box, then it adjusts on it's own.

it also goes through a third level, so it has a night, day and dawn/dusk also where it's dark background with a dark grey/blue/redish in the sky.

I have mine set on "day" all the time, when you switch on the headlights, it automatically goes to night mode.

Or you could use Kring's suggestion and use automatic

i'm having trouble getting the display to change to night when i turn on the headlight. try the owner's manual but didnt see anything on the auto switch.

to clarify, is the setting accessed through the button "Setting" or the day/night button? thanks.

On the right hand side of the scroll wheel is a set of buttons.
The middle button is Day/Night - Off.
If you are in the car with the lights on and the screen is set to to day, tap that button and it will turn the navi to night and will also set it to automatic.

If you hold the button in for a few seconds, it turns the display off.
Hitting a button or tapping the screen will turn the screen back on.

ok, tried this last night and could not get it to work. here is what i am trying to do: when i turn on the headlights, i would like the display to go into night mode, ie, with stars in the sky. no matter what i do, it will not do this.

e.g., by pressing the day/night/off button, when the headlights are on, it only dims the display (no stars). to see stars (not literally), i have to press the day/night/off button again. then, when i turn off the headlights, the stars stay.

is it possible to have the stars come out automatically?

Go into Settings -> Display -> Background Color and play with that.

Mine had been toggling correctly as the headlights are turned on and off.
I went down to the car and played with the settings to try and figure this out for you and when I was done playing, I couldn't get out of Night Mode, even when hitting the day/night button.

I went back into the Settings -> Display -> Background Color section, and with the headlights in the off position, I played with that setting until it read (Auto) Day.
Tapped the Back button until I got to the map and all was warm and fuzzy again.

Play with that setting and let me know ig that fixes it.

I think AV is correct.

I believe the background color has to be set to the dark setting, to get the stars to come out automatically when turning on the headlights.

If I set the background color to the dark setting, I get nighttime and stars... day or night, regardless if the headlights are on or not.
Once it's set to Auto Day, it goes to night with stars when the lights are on, and back to day when the lights are off.
You can then toggle back and forth using the day/night button.

That comes in handy when I put my lights on during rainy days, but want the day setting so I can still see my screen.

The background color has to be set to Auto Day.

OK, gotcha. Just tried it again with background set to the light color setting.

With lights OFF
- NAV show bright day setting (Auto Day mode)
- Hit the button "Day/Night Off", it toggles to Night mode (no stars, just less bright)

With lights ON
- NAV shows night setting with stars (Auto night mode)
- Hit the button "Day/Night Off", it toggles to Day mode (no stars, increased brightness)
